5.0 out of 5 stars Brazil strikes again, October 5, 2011
This review is from: Force Against Mind (Audio CD)
Something must be present in the water in Brazil...that country produces some of the most insanely brutal, awesome thrash bands to storm the planet. Andralls are no exception...I can't believe that I'm the first to review this (where have I read THAT before??), and I sincerely hope that curious readers of my other reviews will let me espouse on this slammin' slab of molten metal...

Now, I am the first to admit that 'new' thrash bands are not reinventing the wheel...I mean, seriously...what are they gonna do? Play faster? You'd be straddling the fence between thrash and death metal there, and to me there is a significant difference (mostly lyrical, and vocal styles, but I digress...). I read reviews from thrash fans from back 'in the day' that can't 'get into' the newer bands since Exodus, Slayer, Dark Angel, Testament, etc etc etc (notice I didn't put Metallica in there...looooong story, and my time is valuable, and so is yours...) already defined the genre and smashed the template, so why bother listening to rehashed mutations of the same stuff recorded 20 years after the fact...right, guys? Well, I'll tell you why...if it were not for bands like Andralls (among others), then thrash will continue to be a quirky little footnote in the annals of 80's metal...AND I REFUSE TO LET THAT HAPPEN!

Simply put, Andralls are simply an incredibly brutal (you'll see that word a LOT in this review)and heavy monster of a thrash band. Influences are obvious, so I won't bore you with the bands they are reminicent of...I WILL, however, state that there is no ridiculous frippery going on here...this is serious mayhem. Remember the rush you felt listening to Demolition Hammer for the first time? Or Kreator's 'Extreme Aggression'? Or Sepultura's 'Beneath The Remains'? Just one face slamming track after another until you were so out of breath that you had to play it again...JUST ONE MORE TIME...this cd is like that. The speed is unbelievably tight, the leads are scalpel-sharp, and the 'singer' has (not that he sounds like him, God rest his soul) a Paul Baloff-type quality mixed in with a little Chuck Billy mixed in with Max Calavera mixed in with...well, let's just say he sounds suitably angst-ridden, and gargles every morning with a cup full of freshly broken chunks of beer bottles...throw in a 2-pack a day smoking habit as well, with a Brazilian accent and voila! A thrash 'vocalist' that will make the cockroaches in your drain flee in terror...

In my metal dreams, I wish I could be a concert promoter in charge of putting together a 3-day thrash festival...headliners for the 3 days are Slayer, Testament and Exodus...I would (again, in my dreams) reunite Exorcist, Cyclone, Demolition Hammer and Iron Angel...put bands like Razor, Exhumer, Living Death, Dark Angel, Sacrifice, Death Angel, Whiplash, etc. on the bill as well...Kreator, Destruction, Possessed, Sodom and Exciter would also have to be present, as well. But, to complete the cycle of thrash metal, there would also be Andralls (as well as Havok, Carnal Forge, The Haunted, et al), proudly brandishing the flag and shield of all that is vital for the continuance of thrash. Andralls KICK! And they kick HARD...
