Editorial Reviews

Featuring Mercyful Fate alumni Michael Denner and Hank Shermann, Force of Evil's debut is a solid and enjoyable effort that will appeal to headbangers who still can't get enough of classic '80s power metal. - 2003

4.0 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of the Bay Area thrash metal scene, May 21, 2004
This review is from: Force of Evil (Audio CD)
What's good about it?

If your name is Force of Evil, it only makes sense that you have a song titled "Hell on Earth." This track is loaded with meaty riffs and vocals that would make Rob Halford proud. "Mindbreaker" is equally as punishing with its quick, high-pitched licks and back and forth pentatonic soloing. Shermann and Denner keep this up throughout the disc. What better night to celebrate the evil one than on Halloween? "Samhain," which is the Pagan word for Halloween, has plenty of dark and evil overtones. Steene's vocals are at their sinister peak here. The frantic solo makes you feel like your descending into the fiery pit of hell. Force of Evil summons the devil on "The Calling." This fast paced track is their battle cry. And if summoning the devil isn't enough, the birth of Satan's spawn is addressed on "Demonized." The long instrumental opening is sure to elicit memories of this band's past work.

Anything bad?

We get it. You're evil!

Bottom Line

Yeah, Force of Evil reeks of classic eighties metal clichés, from the musical structure to the cover art, and right down to the song titles. You have to hand it to these guys for staying true to their sound. If you're a fan of the Bay Area thrash metal scene, you're sure to like Force of Evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC, May 11, 2004

It's simple, really. Two of the most influential musicians of our era....now reunited. They make metal like Tipton and Downing, Iommi and Butler, Harris, Murray and Smith, Lulis and Boltendahl, Blackmore and Gillan....the list goes on. To make it it short; if you like classic "heavy metal" you *will* like this. I recommend 'Fountain of Grace' and 'Eternity' amongst the all the other killer tracks. Just sit back and listen to the solos and fills. These guys know their chops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Metal, May 30, 2004

I wasn't sure what I was buying when I picked this CD up, but after listening to it, I was definately sold. Every song has great intricate riffs, and Michael Denner and Hank Sherman are in top form with their guitar playing. And Martin Steene sounds great at the voacla helm. I just got the DVD, and there are two Mercyful Fate songs, and Martin does a good job with them adding his own style without copying King Diamond. As a bonus, there's an extra song from their forth coming CD.

Can't wait for their second release
