I got this pack just recently. I noticed the good price and could not resist. Both of the planes are easy to put together and they fly surprisingly well.
The assault plane is probably a bit easier since it flies like an airplane and is very predictable and stable. Turns are somewhat wide but a park is enough to fly, not for a back yard though. The biplane turns tighter and flies more like a kite, a bit tail heavy but that is not a negative thing in this case.
I recommend adding clear tape to the wing leading edges (wrap around). This will add very little weight but will increase durability a lot.
Positives:
+ both planes fly well, easy to control
+ very good throttle and turn response, especially throttle control is smoother than some other similar micro RC planes
+ easy to move radios to other Tyco planes (spares are available)
+ propellers are very well balanced, no vibrations
Negatives:
- the bipe in my case had slightly warped fuselage which made it turn left. I fixed it with rudder trim (bent the rudder part - there's no trim in the TX) and bending the fuse carefully.
- radio range could be better. Now it is only 20-25m on ground, in the air up to 40m which is enough in most cases. Leave the RX antenna hanging down, this gives the best range.
- battery charger circuitry in the TX is not very precise. Do dot charge in cold, this may overcharge the RX. Keep an eye on the battery temperature, if it gets noticeably warm, stop charging.
- no spare propellers in the box
- the red indicator LED in the TX only turns on if a steering or throttle input is given. To me this was a bit confusing (thought the batteries were dead) until noticing this.
Lots of negatives but in this case the positive qualities win hands down.

Great Starter Planes, December 26, 2007

For Christmas this year I bought my 4 year old son this two-pack set. I don't usually seek out to do positive reviews on products, but for this product, I had to.
Simply put - it is awesome. Today we only tried the assault plane, and it flew like a champ. It was EXTREMELY easy to put together and fly.
1) Use fully charged or fresh energizer/duracells
2) Fly in an open space, at least a football field-sized area. It can't be flown in a residential area, or backyard. The plane will break if it flies into trees, powerlines, etc.
3) Don't fly in windy weather
One drawback might be that the batteries get drained quickly (about 15 - 20 flights). I'd recommend 6 AA rechargables. Also, the plane will break if flown into large objects at moderate speeds. What would you expect? We saw a slight split in the wing after hitting a tree, but it honestly didn't affect anything. The instructions say you can patch with transparent tape.
I love how easy it is to assemble. Also, you can tweak the direction of the motors a bit to straighten out flight. The 27mhz is effective - that plane went at least 40 feet in the air!!! Sometimes you need to hustle a bit to keep the reception, but that's a good problem to have.
All in all, this is a great beginner plane. When my 4 year old can enjoy it, and fly it for 30 - 60 seconds, it is a bargain!!!!

i got these planes for my sons. They were easy to put together but there is only one engine and two planes so you can only use one plane. Also, they broke almost instantly from the smallest fall. They are also very hard to control and keep from crashing
