Forced Blooms is the story of an unlikely friendship between a young girl and a woman old enough to be her grandmother. Elizabeth is a fifty-year-old widow in the process of rebuilding her life after her husband's death; Gretchen is a ten-year-old who thinks being "smart" is all that counts in life. Chance makes them neighbors and a dog they both love makes them friends. We follow them over the next twenty years as Elizabeth faces the inevitable difficulties of aging, but also the possibilities for life and growth, while Gretchen turns into a young woman capable of much more than either of them would have thought possible at the beginning.
