Anticon: Music for the ages?,
By
This review is from: Forcefield Kids (Audio CD)
I have long been a fan of Anticon records, perhaps 5 - 6 years. I have watched the label grow to be a new form of music rather than just a new form of hip-hop. This is especially true with the new PASSAGE disk Forcefeild Kids. The disk is full of folk rock/ Post Hip-Hop/ Art rock/ Stream of conciseness. No matter what you are into you will most likely find a taste of it on this disk. My personal favorite tracks are 3. Creature in the classroom, 9. The Kareoki (sp?) Kiss Ass, and 11. Jail 4 Lil Geniuses. #3 is a good blend of passage's singsong cadence with his abstract, yet forward, rhyme style. #9 is a sick little song, a little of the newer style. #11 is very reminiscent of the Restiform Bodies work. The same intensity is very evident on much of the disk, yet the production separates it from the Restiform work. What seems to be a new trend in the Anticon camp, self-production is a big part of this disk. All in all I would say if you own any anticon disks, pick this one up. As a fan who owns over thirty albums, I would say it was well worth the $14.

Mind opening.,

Dave Bryant brings his own unique style of hip hop to the table on this album. This is for those of you who are bored of the mundane, traditional hip hop formula. One of my favorite albums that Anticon has ever released. Try to find his older works like Tennis, Piano And Other Primary Sightings and the album he did with The Bomarr Monk called Moods & Symptoms. Passage is very much an underrate MC.
