Essential reading and great value,

This review is from: Ford, the Dust and the Glory: A Racing History, 1901-1967 (Hardcover)
Wow. This is a fabulous story told by a skillful writer. The people and the technology support each other, and "Ford" as a theme takes the story through early racing, hot rodding, Indy, NASCAR, and Europe. The research that Levine put into the book shows, and he (or his editor) is skilled enough to know exactly when to step aside and let the source material tell the story. And what a value! 640 pages for $..., compared to <200 pages for a typical auto racing book.

Understanding the Cradle of Ford Racing,

This review is from: Ford, the Dust and the Glory: A Racing History, 1901-1967 (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book, essential for any true racing enthusiast. The author weaves the various threads of racing development -- worldwide in scope -- form Dearborn to Oregon to Argentina to California to Europe. The only disapointment in this edition is the rather poor reproduction of the photographs...

Flat Heads, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars and Le Mans!,
By James L. Moriarty (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ford, the Dust and the Glory: A Racing History, 1901-1967 (Hardcover)
This book was a terrific detailed history of Ford Motor Company racing through 1967. For anybody who loves fast cars, Fords and lived through the debut of the Mustang, the Cobra, and the GT40 that won at Le Mans this is a terrific read. A friend who is a car buff recommended it and while it took a while to get through (640+ pages) it was worth the effort. It also makes you appreciate the advance in publishing that have taken place since 1968 when this book first appeared. The pictures are grainy and don't do justice to the drivers, the cars or the author's fine writing.

an excellent read, from start to finish; the author covers Ford's beginnings and how racing played such a large part in it's success all the way to winning at le Mans; even a few General Motors tidbits are thrown that are very interesting - did you know that Zora Arkus-Duntov (the unofficial father of the Corvette) designed some key parts for Ford?

Ford, the Dust and the Glory,
This review is from: Ford, the Dust and the Glory: A Racing History, 1901-1967 (Hardcover)
Absolutely essential to getting a well rounded account of the 60's Ford racing history from oval tracks to road racing to drag racing. The Lemans story with the officially marked crates (of junk) to give the impression of a heavily backed team is awesome. This book tells the Fomoco side of things without so much emphasis on the Shelby efforts. This is one book I had to have as soon I scanned a few of the pages. I got my copy years ago, before the Internet, when there was no easily accessible source for out of print inventories. I obtained it from a library sale.

greatest ever written on ford racing history,

This review is from: Ford: The Dust and the Glory; A Racing History. (Hardcover)
My father Donnell A. Sullivan is written up numerous times. He is a legend in fords racing history. He was working for Fords up until his death at age 89 in l994. I would greatly appreciate locating a copy of this most valuable book. He worked in the Edison Lab in l932 and was part of the five man team with mr. Henry Ford in designing the first V8 engine. I have most every book, article written on him, but I am eagerly searching for DUST AND GLORY. His Daughter Patty Sullivan Gors.
