This book has helped me save some serious time, as I am not an automotive guru. It has also cut down on the amount of trips to the parts store. It could have been organized better, and it should have gone into more detail.

This manual has helped me save over a thousand dollars in mechanic work. However, it's not perfect. I had a problem with my check engine light, which turned out to be an emissions issue - the manual described the location of the part I needed to replace, but provided no images or description of it. I didn't know what I was looking for! I ended up solving the problem, but it would have been easier if there was an image or drawing of the part. I also replaced my CV drive shaft - I learned that when you pull out the shaft, transmission fluid pours out, which the book fails to mention. An experienced mechanic would probably expect it, but it still wouldn't have hurt to mention it.

Overall, it's a decent manual - it has helped a ton and is worth the price. I knew nothing about cars before I bought this manual, and now I am capable of doing a lot of my own car maintenance. Even if you don't plan to fix it yourself, you can use the manual to diagnose the problem before going to the mechanic.

This manual is indispensable for those who want to maintain their car or make minor repairs without getting gouged at the local mechanic shop. The instructions are simple and the specialty tools you may need are usually available at your local auto parts store such as Autozone. It really is a shame to pay someone else to change your brakes or replace your spark plugs. The manual's author is aware of it's limits and will note when a repair is beyond the scope of the book. Really, it is a valuable resource to have for any car you own.

This book contains all a Ford Escort and Mercury owner could want, starting from must have beginner DIY info. on the engine maintenance and repair, to the way you can fix bumps damage and scratched body parts on your chassis. Attention, though, not to be used as a SPECIFIC reference on diesel or EU types of engine (some information inside this book can still be useful anyway, some engine and body parts are still the same)!

bought for son's car. generally useful. helps with repairs. not the ultimate for repairs but it does help
