Good, not great,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ford Total Performance: The Road to World Racing Domination, 1962-1970 (Paperback)
This book could be considered an alternative to Volume One of "The Dust and the Glory" for readers who aren't interested in flathead-era Ford racing. There is really interesting coverage of the Sixties Indy engine program. A few of the photos are the same as "The Dust and the Glory," and a couple of the paragraphs read like direct lifts from it. There are some factual errors with contextual, non-Ford information (e.g., implying that Mark Donohue raced in the Indy 500 in 1968), but the primary information about the Ford racing program seems sound.

Ford Total Performance: The Road to World Racing Domination, 1962-1970,
This review is from: Ford Total Performance: The Road to World Racing Domination, 1962-1970 (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the early efforts of Ford Motor Company in racing. The books covers Ford's involvement in the various forms of motor racing, Indy, Sports, Nascar, Rally and Drag racing. It speaks to the decisions made at Ford that help them truly dominate the racing scene in the 1960s up till there withdrawal in the 1970s due to the fuel crisis. Good historical information and many fascinating stories and pictures. I recommend this to all Ford fans and to anyone interested in why and how the automakers got into racing.

Even if your not a Ford guy you should read this book! How small groups of dedicated men can take on the best in the world and win, is an awesome heartlifting story and the pictures of now ancient racecars are truly wonderful.

I am A HUGE GM Guy/Corvette/Chevy which I believe are Superior,I know Blue Oval fans have it lucky considering they did not Have their Ford Brand Nationalized and that's a good point,As I never would buy a Nationalized product nor SAIC(Red Chinese) owned product(as of this writing a 15& stake) is rumored, And You have to give credit for Henry Ford II taking it to Snobby Annoying Enzo Ferrari(I can't stomach Ferrari)and Beating him with the GT40's, The Complete Domination (Almost) by Ford in the 60's while GM beancounters enforced the AMA ban cannot be overlooked. Although we cannot Forget Chaparral,McLaren and other "Backdoor" Racing from GM,especially my favorite being the Cobra Stomping Grand Sports,This book is a good read for Blue Oval guys,Indy,GT40,Cobras,DRAG RACING,and Stock Cars. Wish GM would Have done Something On the Scale of Ford,However the Indy program revealed here was basically on a Shoestring.

I bought this book because I love anything to do with Fords made in the 60's, and especially the racing history. This book goes into depth on every aspect of racing of that era in great detail. If you are a serious Ford fan, or a serious race fan, then this book is for you.
