THE reference bible on the Tin Goose, August 23, 2010
This review is from: The Ford Tri-Motor 1926-1992: (Schiffer Aviation History) (Hardcover)
Researching the Trimotor history for a modelling project, this title is undoubtedly THE reference book for anyone interested in this legendary aeroplane.
Comprehensive in its scope, with detailed information on each aircraft produced, good quality photographs, it will provide almost all you need to understand the Tin Goose in depth.
Some nitpicking comments for future releases : add a bit more specifics on the engines used for each aircraft (P&W Wasp is OK, but it would do no harm to precise R-1340, knowing that other books sometimes confuse the Wasp (R-1340) with the Wasp Jr (R-985), and one is left in conjectures whether Mr Larkin has commited the same mistake - and I hasten to say he has not)...Bigger size photographs for the various liveries would also be a plus in the next editions of this book.
All in all, warmly recommended reading !

Superb Coverage of Aviation History, November 11, 2009
This review is from: The Ford Tri-Motor 1926-1992: (Schiffer Aviation History) (Hardcover)
If you love aviation, history and books about classic aircraft, this is a book for you. Excellent photos of the interior, different planes built (only 199) the history of the development by Henry Ford - it also has a summary of each plane built, what happened to it and the survivors.
Why 3 engines? Because it was safer back then instead of two. Rugged, sturdy, well built and eye catching, this plane has become a true classic airplane. Built just before the Great Depression, it managed to continue to attract customers from airlines, corporations and private buyers.
This is a complete history of the Ford Tri-Motor. Development, design, use, accidents, data, statistics told in an informative and interesting way. You can tell the author is an aviation buff. I do wish they had some color photos, some of the paint schemes must have been very pleasing.
Big book on a true classic. Highly recommended for serious aviation buffs who want to learn about the early pioneering days of flight.

Perhaps my favorite book!, July 14, 2011
This review is from: The Ford Tri-Motor 1926-1992: (Schiffer Aviation History) (Hardcover)
As a retired history teacher, I've read several thousand history books and this is probably my favorite book. (NO JOKE!)
It is an extraordinarly well researched (NOT SOMETHING YOU FIND EVERYDAY!) and written history of the Ford Tri-Motor. The reference/resource section on each and every one of the planes built is also exceptionally well done.
This book is an enjoyable insight into the adventures of the early days of aviation.
It inspired me to track down two of the remaining Ford Tri-Motors and go up in them. Got ten minutes instruction flying one of them!
This book should be rated six stars.....
