5.0 out of 5 stars Forecast: quirky & mystic romantic comedy
I enjoy reading good romantic comedy, but its not often that I encounter a book in this genre where I think, as soon as I've finished it, "I've got to read this again"! I loved Jane Tara's book. 1.0 out of 5 stars gave up, i hated the characters
I rarely give up on books, but I started this one and flat out didn't like any of the characters. The hero is an jerk and the heroine is just blah. I like quirky secondary characters, but the ones in this one are just annoying. After about 4 chapters, I was not into it, so I gave up.

Tara's writing style seems well done, but the characters just weren't...

Following Rowie Shakespeare's quirky life and her romantic (& psychic) trials and tribulations is all the more enjoyable because of the well-developed crew of support characters.
Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jealousy talking, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
Not in the habit of reading "romance" novels, but this one is full of charm, wit, and magic. Found myself (as a male) wishing for a chance to meet Miss Shakespeare(and you can't ask for more than that from a novel).
Can't say I would read it again (another thing I don't make a habit of), but I can say that the women in this novel have stayed with me. If I had a criticism, it would be that I don't think that any of the men are worthy (or in the same league) as Miss Shakespeare or the other women in the novel, but that might just be jealousy talking.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great read and ride!, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
Jane Tara's book "Forecast" should be forecasted as a best seller. What a fun read and the characters were so well written that I identified with more than one and couldn't put the book down. Lots of love, lust, learning and metaphysics presented through the eyes of both believer and doubter... I'll let you read it to see which side wins out.

Tara's wit woven througout her writing puts a twinkle in the eye of many characters, I may steal a few one-liners and use them on my pals!

Truly a joy to read, and re-read!

Looking forward to her next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Four Stars Because I Liked It, August 10, 2010
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
Trying for an upbeat feel, this is a light contemporary romance. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it for an entertaining afternoon. A no-brainer, it is a romance that doesn't require the reader to think too much.

Our hero Drew is somewhat of a jerk at the beginning of the book. A professional weatherman, he takes his job seriously. He is injured early on and while recuperating he has time to think about his life. His personality gets better as the story moves forward.

Involved with a business that includes both her mother and grandmother our heroine Rowie's life is staid. She is a psychic who can predict the weather. Another attribute is her 'gift', through a kiss, that tells who that other's future half is. Needless-to-say, she has never met her 'love' and has given up on relationships.

On a whim she is hired to take Drew's place. No one takes her seriously at first and to add to her problems her 'boss' thinks she loves Drew and wants Rowie's help. There are some secondary stories concerning the mom and grandma that tie into the romance.

Some slow reading in parts with little contact between Drew and Rowie in the first half of the book make for a few bumps. All in all, it is not bad; just don't expect a burning romance and you won't be disappointed.

Tara's writing style seems well done, but the characters just weren't likable. Maybe they redeemed themselves later in the book, but I just didn't like them enough to wait and see. Usually I have a lot more to say about a book, but in this case, I think that says it all for me.

If you like the psychic/new age type characters, I recommend Cathie Linz's books instead:Good Girls Do (Berkley Sensation),Big Girls Don't Cry (Berkley Sensation).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Paranormal Romance, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a very cute and light hearted paranormal romance. The main characters were likable and the secondary characters and their storylines were also top notch. You want to dislike the main male character but he really grows on you. I enjoyed reading a paranormal romance that made me laugh! Most nowadays are so dark and gory. This was a very good and fast read, I would reccomend it to a friend.

I really enjoyed Forecast. The whole Shakespear family was entertaining to read about. It was different than your average romance book. I liked how everything tied up nicely in the end. I hope to read more books from this author in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychic meets Scientist and the sparks fly, December 6, 2007

The Shakespeare women are psychic. Grandmother Gwendolyn speaks to the dead. Daughter Lilia speaks to Fairies. And Granddaughter Rowie, well, she speaks to the weather. Every morning her neighbors and friends gather on her doorstep to hear the "weather report". Which is never wrong. Drew Henderson is the charismatic "hot" weather reporter on the local news. He doesn't believe in anything that can't be scientifically proven. When Drew breaks his leg and Rowie is asked to fill in for him....the sparks fly. Author Jane Tara has written a wonderful book full of humor, psychic phenomena and romance. The interaction between the three Shakespeare women are complex and believable. These are real people that the reader can identify with and enjoy. We can laugh with them. It's a good story. The other aspect of this book I liked is that it treated psychic talents as just another part of life. It didn't try to educate the reader on the supernatural or pagan religions and it wasn't portrayed as something bizarre and otherworldly. The characters didn't take themselves too seriously and they were able to laugh at themselves. It made the psychic gifts fun and you wanted to know what would happen next. It was this aspect of the book that brought it from a 4 star to a 5 star for me. I would recommend this book highly and I hope to see more books soon from Jane. She's on my watch list for new titles. And Forecast is in my permanent library.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 stars, November 11, 2007
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
Rowie Shakespeare could be considered gifted, but while it might be nice to be able to always know what the weather was going to be or turn a profit making predictions for folks; knowing within a kiss whether or not a date was the man who was meant to be part of her future did put a damper on romance. Nonetheless, she plies her trade and keeps hoping for the one man who won't register on her radar. When her talent gains her fame, she might have found him, but it seems that all she can do is get on the fellow's bad side, and he doesn't work too hard at being endearing, either.

*** Quirky humor highlights this breezy, easy to read story that gives you a Shakespeare who is not over anyone's head. Small town life is captured well by Ms. Tara's prose, and though very imaginative, her plot does have the quality of not being so out there that you can't conceive of it as plausible. ***

4.0 out of 5 stars amusing New Age romance, October 30, 2007
This review is from: Forecast (Mass Market Paperback)
In Greenwich Village, everyone knows to visit the Shakespeare females if they wanted accurate predictions of their future. If you need to know the weather or find a lost child or object, most know to stop at the Shakespeare Second Site new age store. Rowie Shakespeare loves her grandmother who manages the store and her mother the mystic, but would like to move past the mysticism starting with a boyfriend, who with a first kiss she does not know his future with some other bimbo.

TV weather man Drew Henderson is the in meteorologist because he goes where the action is and explains complex science so that his viewers understand it without dumbing it down; it helps that he is a hunk. Covering a hurricane he is injured, but his studio chooses a psychic weatherwoman rather than a professional to temporarily replace him. As he has cardiac arrest, Rowie becomes a celebrity with her uncanny 100 per cent accuracy. When they kiss for the firs time, she cannot read his lips except for their wanting to kiss her again.

This is an amusing New Age romance with whimsical fantasy elements to enhance the tale. In many ways FORECAST is an updated version of Bell, Book, and Candle, but has a freshness of its own due to the weather predicting "rivalry" between the psychic and the scientist. Jane Tara provides a charming entertaining tale of love amidst TV meteorology ratings that this reviewer predicts will gain the author many appreciative fans.
