5.0 out of 5 stars Tina's best and there's not doubt about it.
"Foreign affair" is one of those albums that you just must have.
Tina Turner is a legend in music and everybody thinks that her 1984 hit album "Private dancer" it's her best because of the several Top 10 hits, the bunch of Grammy awards that it won and the almost 20 million copies it sold but "Foreing affair is more than that. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
Accused of selling out, it;s nice to see that Tina hasn't completely abandoned her R&B roots (whether she resents them or not). This is an upbeat album for the most part, aside from a few slushy moments remeniscent of her past, that seem to be reflective of Ike.

Tina is at her very best (I'm not saying that she is not good anymore)I mean her look, she was still with her long hair, her voice, her lyrics and singing were stronger.
"Foreign affair" besides being and album full of strengh and fantastic lyrics and sounds was a very big hit. It sold almost 10 million copies, was nominated for several Grammy awards and has classic hits such as the #1 "The best", and the Top 16 singles "Steamy windows", "Be tender with me baby", "Foreign affair", "I don't wanna lose you" and "Look me in the heart".
This album was produced by Tina and hit singer/producer Tony Joe White who actually wrote some of the songs for the album.
Whether you're a Tina's fan or not you must have this one, really you won't be sorry at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums of the 20th century, November 13, 2001
This review is from: Foreign Affair (Audio CD)
This album is a climax in musical perfection. Only when listening to this album at full blast riding in a car can one truly apreciate this album. Tina Turner always said this album described the feeling you get on a very good day, "with the wind in your hair." Tina is right. This album is a masterpiece and an amazing journey that shall never be repeated.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is not a good album, It's a great album, March 9, 2001

This review is from: Foreign Affair (Audio CD)
There are very few albums that become classics and I consider great records. Tina Turner's "Foreign affair" (1989-Capitol/emi) is one of them. Tina Turner hasn't released any bad albums since "Private Dancer" in 1984, but few of them really stand out and become classics. "Break every rule" (1986) was fun. "Wildest Dreams" (1996) was loaded with collaborations with other stars and "Twenty four seven" (1999/2000) was good but not great. Only "Private Dancer" and "Foreign Affair" have turned out the songs we still often hear today on European Radio. "Foreign Affair" is still Tina's most popular album in Europe to date. It is easy to understand why. The record contains so many different genres of music that it still sounds fresh even more than ten years after release. It was Tina's first collaboration with southerner Tony Joe white. She recorded his sassy "steamy windows" and it became a huge hit on mainland Europe at the end of 1989. The single also reached nr. 8 on the UK charts early 1990. Three other Tony JW songs were recorded for this album most notibly her bluesy rendition of "Undercover agent for the blues". European critics hailed it as a return to her roots. The title track, also written by White sounded like the best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler did do the guitar solo on the track. Other songs on the album include "The best", undoubtably Europe's biggest hit in the fall of 1989, The Graham Lyle song "I don't wanna lose you" ( he also wrote "What's love got to do with it") which was also a UK and European smash hit + the fantastic Hammond/Knight songs "be tender with me baby" and "ask me how I feel". Foreign affair has sold more than 6 million copies to date in Europe. Why the album only reached gold status in the US and never made it to Platinum is still one of the greatest mysteries in pop music... A must for not only every Tina Turner fan, but a must for everybody who loves popular music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly Tina's Strongest Album, August 16, 2006

Interstingly, this album was a much bigger hit overseas than here in the States. It went multipltinum overseas, while barely denting the Top 40 here. This shows that foreign fans can be more aware of true talent. This album really has very little weakness. The track "The Best", has become such a recognizable tune you tend to forget it came from this album. Two other tracks really stand out here for me: "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent For The Blues". The first is a return to her R&B roots with a really great blues guitar lick, and the latter a great blues tune given a great gritty reading by Ms Turner. The rest of the album is full of great tunes, and one wonders why the album never really caught on in the U.S. Anyway, this album has aged VERY well, and it sounds fresh and alive and full of energy. Not to say that Tina doesn't sing as hard or as well as she used to, but she really sells this album from down deep inside. Anybody else singing "The Best" sounds really silly. Get this album and be reintroduced to Tina again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very classy, remains as modern today as it was in 1989, January 3, 2004

This is quite possibly Tina Turner's best solo album. Yes, "private Dancer" was a successful comeback album but it was a mixed bag of good and bad tracks. Next came "Break Every Rule" which was fun but commercial sounding. However, in 1989, she blessed us all with this very impressive album full of tracks that remain as fresh today as they did back in 1989. Tina moved away from the commercial synthesizer sound that featured on her previous two albums.

This album's highlights include the very impressive title track which I am surprised wasn't a massive hit single. It's that good. If you get a chance, check out the video for it on her "Simply the Best" DVD. Another great track on this album is "Steamy Windows" a cover of a great R&B classic. Tina makes it her own. The very catchy "I Don't Wanna Lose You" is also included on this album. The big hit single "The Best" is included on this album (probably my least favourite) but the song has its moments.

Even for semi- Tina fans, this is the album to get out of all her albums. Yet sadly overlooked on its initital release in 1989.

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY THE BEST, November 2, 2000

A huge triumph in Tina Turners long and succesful career. This album is consistently excellent from beginning to end. Its multiply produced by Tina Turner herself, Dan Hartman, Tony Joe White, Roger Davies, Graham Lyle and Albert Hammond. The album kicks off with the roaring rock classic, STEAMY WINDOWS and is followed by the triumphant THE BEST which is one of her most famous tracks in her career.YOU KNOW WHO and UNDERCOVER AGENT FOR THE BLUES are excellent, catchy, mid tempo, rock numbers. Other highlights include LOOK ME IN THE HEART, BE TENDER WITH ME BABY, CAN'T STOP ME LOVING YOU and FOREIGN AFFAIR although as said, the entire album is excellent! A truly magnificent classic and a landmark in her career. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Tina Turner album ever !!!, December 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Foreign Affair (Audio CD)
Foreign affair was Tina's third album for Capitol records. It is also her best. The album outsold private dancer in the UK after two months of release late 1989 and sold more than 5 million copies in Europe. It contains three UK top ten singles ( "the best", "Steamy Windows" and "I don't wanna lose you") and Tina Turner considers it the best she's ever done. This is an album that contains all styles of music. There are the ballads ( I don't wanna lose you), There are the pop songs ( The best, Look me in the heart), there are the FM- rock songs (Ask me how I feel) and there's for the first time since she left Ike Turner some blues (Undercover agent for the blues). Especially Tina 's versions of the Tony Joe White songs "Steamy Windows", "undercover agent for the blues" and the title track are great ! Shame on you Capitol Records, for not having this album available anymore in the States. Thank you EMI for treating this album different in the rest of the world !! It's THE BEST she's ever done ! "Wildest Dreams" is good but looks weak compared to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gleeful exuberance from one of the most dynamic and radiant women ever to step in front of a mike, January 3, 2010
This review is from: Foreign Affair (Audio CD)
With much agreement to one of the other reviewers, this album may not have been as overly successful as her mega-comeback "Private Dancer," but on the overall, it is probably the most solid, mature, and fully realized album that Tina Turner has made, with not one second wasted from start to finish. She's in fabulous vocal form as always (which shouldn't be too surprising for someone who's rumored to never even smoked, much less used drugs), and she gets some big-name help on the production end of things, with contributions by Dan Hartman and Tony Joe White, among others. Every song ranges from good to outright amazing, with "The Best" and "Falling Like Rain" being some of the catchiest, most infectious pop songs you'll ever hear, and she even manages to exude nothing but pure classiness on her ode to impromptu lovemaking, "Steamy Windows."
