Book Description

August 19, 2001 0130909874 978-0130909879 1

This important and original volume assesses what we now know about world politics and American foreign policy after more than a decade of the post-Cold War era, and the wider implications of this experience both for the U.S role in the 21st Century and for international relations more broadly. The chapter authors are leading authorities in their fields, and their contributions integrate both foreign and domestic setting for foreign policy. Part I looks at public opinion, debates about humanitarian intervention, the use of force in foreign conflicts, and congressional-executive relations in the making of foreign policy. Part II deals with the key regional issues confronting the United States, including the Middle East, Europe, Russia, China and East Asia, Latin America and Africa. Part III addresses major functional topics, including international economics and trade, defense policy, proliferation, “rogue” states, the environment, and America's relationship to the United Nations. For individuals interested in the United State's degree of international primacy—the impact of domestic politics on its world role, and the longer-term implications of foreign policy.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Once again, Lieber has been able to assemble an in-depth, timely, and provocative anthology on American foreign policy." -- Lui Hebron, Florida International University "Overall, this book fills an important gap in the offerings of existing texts on American foreign policy. Thematically, this volume is very timely in that it addresses U.S. foreign policy since the end of the Cold War. Not only are the chapters very current in their content, they anticipate the challenges that the United States will face in the twenty-first century. The contributors are all highly respected scholars and provide many valuable insights that will enlighten and interest students of foreign policy." -- Shannon Lindsey Blanton, University of Memphis "Lieber and Company have done it again! Eagle Rules?, the sixth volume in this popular edited collection on U.S. foreign policy, offers a sophisticated, well-informed, and timely assessment of the challenges to American primacy more than a decade after the end of the Cold War. This book is required reading for advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and scholars alike." -- Linda P Brady, Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, Georgia Institute of Technology

4.0 out of 5 stars Eagle Rules? Yes, it does., August 31, 2009

This review is from: Eagle Rules? Foreign Policy and American Primacy in the Twenty-First Century (Paperback)
This won't be the best review, I haven't opened the book, seeing how as I'm only in my first week of college. But I got it in great condition, very cheap. So I definitely loved that. Not too heavy a book and small, so it's convenient to carry around. Not much else to add.
