5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping the FCPA Enforcers At Bay, May 2, 2010
By
This review is from: Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Compliance Guidebook: Protecting Your Organization from Bribery and Corruption (Wiley Corporate F&A) (Hardcover)
The father and son team of Martin and Daniel Biegelman has produced what might well be described as the new "go-to" source of analysis, historical perspective, compliance guidance and leadership advice for companies to avoid running afoul of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

Starting with a comprehensive overview of the genesis of the Act, along with highly readable summaries of the history-making Siemens corruption case and other recent enforcement initiatives, "Foriegn Corrupt Practices Act Compliance Guidebook" transitions smoothly to a uniquely succinct "how to" source of specific steps for corporate management to follow for staying out of the crosshairs of the increasingly aggressive enforcement efforts of the FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The book draws on the extensive investigative, compliance and integrity policy experience of Martin and Daniel Biegelman, respectively the head of Microsoft's Financial Integrity Unit and an attorney at the top law firm of Baker & Hostetler. Their collaboration offers managers of all organizations currently or prospectively seeking to expand overseas with all of the information and current compliance guidance they need to do so without risking the potentially devastating financial and reputational penalties of violating this often underestimated federal prohibition against paying bribes to foreign government officials in order to secure business contracts.

In addition, reading this book provides the reader with more than the "whole story" on managing effective FCPA policy; it also offers a blueprint for building and maintaining enterprise-wide standards of integrity, ethics and fair dealing that more and more organizations seem all too willing to compromise.

Team Biegleman has done it again with this book on the FCPA. I am an Internal Audit professional who has been researching the FCPA for the past two years and this book is by far the best one that I have read on the topic. This book provides a clear and systematic approach to understand the FCPA history, requirements, and importance. It also includes excellent case studies to reinforce the concepts. This book is a must read for any business professional that deals with the FCPA or has international operations.
