I like to imagine that Ryan Seagrist, guitarist of the incredible but now defunct Florida indy pop-punk band Discount, went out to a club in Scotland and became "non-functional". When he woke up the next morning he was laying on the floor of some girl named Amanda's apartment. Lo and behold, it turned out that Amanda wass a singer/songwriter. Such fortunate providence could only mean one thing - it's time to break out the four-track and make an album. And then get married...

Or whatever. Somebody probably answered an ad somewhere. None of that gets in the way of the fact that this is a pretty creative album. It continually resists pigeon-holing, moving from electronica to pop-punk to noisecore almost effortlessly. Which is pretty impressive considering that the whole thing was performed by 2 people, probably in a garage-based studio. It sometimes seems a little thin in the mix, but it's hard to complain about that, because a sampled album like this could very easily become over-produced and start to suck.

I guess the major complaint I have is that Manda Rin's vocals seem a bit over-enunciated - think of Gary Oldman's spit-riddled appearance on "Friends", and you'll understand what I mean. She's got a great voice, but is just feels a little sharp sometimes. Standout songs are "Window Shopping" with its soaring pop chorus, and "And He Loves It", a song that feels more like traditional organic punk than some of the more layered and mixed songs on the album. If you're interested in hearing some really creative and experimental sounds, check this one out.
