Book Description

1572300558 978-1572300552 May 17, 1996 1
This book outlines the various forensic applications of the Millon inventories, including the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) and the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory(MACI). Mental health professionals involved as "expert witnesses" in legal cases increasingly rely upon these clinical assessment instruments to determine the presence of personality disorders and other forms of psychopathology. Integrating empirical research, forensic case studies, case law, and theoretical applications, Forensic Assessment with the Millon Inventories addresses legal and ethical considerations, guides professionals in the effective application of the Millon inventories in both civil and criminal cases, and offers guidelines for the preparation of courtroom testimony. This book will be of value to novice and experienced practitioners of forensic psychology, as well as attorneys interested in the field of forensic psychological evaluation. It serves as a text in advanced courses on psychological assessment; forensic psychology; law and mental health; and related topics.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"McCann and Dyer have written a lively and comprehensive volume that will be of significant value to all forensic psychologists who use or who may consider using the Millon Inventories. Their arguments are buttressed with superb clinical illustrations from actual forensic cases that demonstrate their approach to the Millon instruments in vivid detail. Their discussion of statistical, methodological, and research issues related to the Millon Inventories is very helpful. I highly recommend this volume as a companion text to any psychologist who uses the Millon Inventories in a forensic context." --James S. Wulach, Ph.D., JD, Professor of Psychology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY

"Forensic Assessment with the Millon Inventories offers a comprehensive and detailed description of the many ways the MCMI and MACI can be useful in forensic practice. A thorough and well-researched, yet highly readable and practical volume, this book will help make the Millon Inventories a part of every forensic clinician's battery of psychological tests. In short, this is a book that every forensic mental health expert should read." --Charles Patrick Ewing, J.D., Ph.D., Diplomate in Forensic Psychology, American Board of Forensic Psychology, Professor of Law, SUNY Buffalo

This review is from: Forensic Assessment with the Millon Inventories (Hardcover)
I purchased this book two quarters ago for a paper I wrote on histrionic personality disorder. After reading the cases linked to histrionic, I found myself reading the rest of the book. The cases are fascinating, and the information and classifications listed inside make sense and are easy to understand. While many people say that the DSMIV is just a list of characteristics that are wrong with people, I feel that the DSMIV allowing for such classification can lead to successful diagnosis and treatment, such as behavior modification therapy or cognitive analytical therapy. This book shows that there is so much behind why people do what they do. I was also thankful to be able to buy a copy at such a ridiculously low price.

I recommend this book for any person writing a college-level paper or who is interested in reading actual cases involving psychological assessments. This book is a credible reference, and I thought it was a very interesting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars ok, December 9, 2008
This review is from: Forensic Assessment with the Millon Inventories (Hardcover)
McCann and Dyer present a well written book, "Forensic Assessment with the Millon Inventories". It covers many topics germane in the personality assessment of individuals in forensic settings. While the opinions of judges differ, in many jurisdictions, the Millon instruments don't meet the Dow Chemical standard, thus rendering in those jurisdictions assessments with the Millon inadmissible in court.
