About the Author

Thomas W. Vastrick is a forensic document examiner in private practice with offices in Orlando, Florida, and Memphis, Tennessee. He is board certified by the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners and previously served on their Board of Directors in addition to serving as secretary. Mr. Vastrick has testified as an expert in forensic document examination in federal, state, and local courts, military hearings, arbitration hearings, and administrative law hearings in hundreds of instances over his 26-year career. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a forensic document examiner for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Crime Laboratories in Washington, DC, and Memphis, Tennessee.

Mr. Vastrick currently is a member of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners, the Questioned Document Section of the American Academy of Forensic Science, and the Southeastern Association of Forensic Document Examiners. He has authored numerous original research papers that have been published in the United States and overseas. Mr. Vastrick has worked with SWGDOC (Scientific Working Group – Document Examination) developing and codifying standards of methodologies for various types of examinations conducted by forensic document examiners. He has lectured extensively to law enforcement personnel, attorneys, corporate investigators, banking personnel, and at numerous universities. He lectured and taught forensic science and forensic document examination courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level for the University of Central Florida and the National Center for Forensic Science.
