Educational, creative book with warm interestingly unique pictures.,
By Cady Hayden "Children's Book Author" (Bergenfield, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forest Bright, Forest Night (Sharing Nature With Children Book) (Sharing Nature with Children Books) (Hardcover)
This is a highly unique story that adults and children will both enjoy. Forest day depicts animals and their young in their habitats (while other animals that live and flourish in the forest night are sleeping in the same picture underneath) during the daylight hours for the first 11 pages of the book. The next pages compares forest day animals with others and gives factual information about them. The fun part about this book is that you have to turn the book upside down and around to read about forest night. The forest night animals are now awake and living in the moons light and the day time animals are sleeping underneath them. Utterly amazing illustrations with details of foot prints, younglings, nature and colors lead to a terrific story accompanied with rhyme, rhythm and fun words.

What a wonderful book. So much to explore in the beautiful illustrations. You read. You count. You learn. You spy out hidden animals and numbers. More than a storybook it is an engaging adventure. Gave it as a gift to a preschooler. Intend to give it to several more.
A must for every class library. Effectively integrates reading, math and science.

A Grandma's Review,
By
This review is from: Forest Bright, Forest Night (A Simple Nature Book) (Simply Nature Books) (Board book)
This book is excellent. I am a grandma who lives in the woods. I was tired of reading books to my grandchildren about farm animals. So I purchased every board book on forest animals that I could find on-line. Forest Bright, Forest Night is the best book of all my purchases.

I love love love this book. We got it along with about 20 other books from the library, and I was actually quite surprised that our 14 month son really responded to it since I thought the pictures might be too complex for him. It became one of his favorite books and I ended up buying a copy. The book has a lot to offer for kids of many ages. Actually, I enjoy looking at it myself because the illustrations are full of clever surprises. The first half of the book depicts animals who are active during the day, while going through the numbers 1 - 10. In the second half, it goes through the numbers again, this time with nocturnal animals. But look closely and all the nocturnal animals are also in the first half, asleep, and vice versa. Also, in each illustration, the number for that page is worked into the picture -- a crack on a rock is a number 4, etc. In addition, the words are very poetic and creative, with lots of great vocabulary for young kids. My older son was just at the right age to talk about nocturnal vs diurnal animals, and my younger son loved the pictures. I'd love to nominate this book for an award, so if anyone can suggest one that take nominations from the public, please post!

We bought this book when my daughter was 11 months, and she is now 15 months. We bought a board book version. The "story" part is short and simple, with rhyme, alliteration, and interesting verbs, like "Slither and slip, snakes whip". The illustrations are beautiful pictures of animals who live in the forest. We love to hike and camp, so we had to get this book to introduce our daughter to the forest. She likes this book, and I think the counting and complex illustration will provide her entertainment into the future.

Loved the graphics although when our daughter read the book to her children she felt that the book was very sad. But I loved the book and keep a copy here at Grandma's house.

This book has wonderfully detailed and realistic nature illustrations, an unusual dual-book design (you flip over the book to read day, then night, and see different animals become active), *and* lots of I Spy-type fun besides. In addition to the animals you can hunt out in their hideyholes, numbers hide in the images on each page. My nearly-three-year-old and I both love this book.

Lifelike Animals, Wonderful for a Variety of Ages,

We originally checked this book out from our library and loved it so much. Our son is 15 months and he gets very excited to 'read' it. He wants to know what each animal is. As he grows, the concept of nocturnal animals will be learned. The learn to count aspect is subtle and, thankfully, does not take over the whole story but is available when your child is ready for it. This book is beautiful, educational, and essential.

I think I like this book more than my kids, but they do like it too. It not only has some unusual animals(not just your typical dog, cat, cow etc), it also teaches numbers. It starts by showing 10 different animals that you might see during the day and it's night time counterpart is also somewhere in the picture (easy to spot, but interestingly illustrated). Plus, there is also the fun of finding the actual number somewhere in the illustration, like in the lines of tree bark, or in ripples in the water. Not very wordy, and really well illustrated. It's especially nice if you live near wooded areas and get to see these animals.
