Effective blend of music and critters,

This review is from: The Forest Show (Audio CD)
"The Forest Show" is a great little CD and one of those obscure productions that has done an excellent job of combining nature sounds and very relaxing music. The opening track incorporates individual samples of insects and animals in their natural rhythm and actually becomes "musical instruments". I am reminded of the classic Barking Dogs version of "Jingle Bells" which used several different breeds of dogs barking to produce the actual melody of the song. In contrast, the artists of "The Forest Show" incorporated actual sounds and rhythms without over producing or pitch bending the samples to accomplish their means as was done in the aforementioned song.. The natural sounds are more of an accompaniment rather than being used as lead instruments which results in a very listenable CD. The last two tracks are listed as bonus tracks and are simply birds and frogs without any music. Even without one musical note on the last two tracks, these sounds are very soothing, . This is one of my most recent favorite CDs and I hope the artist will release more collections of this nature. (Pardon the pun.) The CD is more musical than "environmental" and only the first track has a distinct Oriental feel. The other tracks could have been written or produced anywhere in the world. In trying to explain how subtle the sounds are, I'd have to say that one might accomplish the same thing by listening to a favorite CD outside one summer evening with the sounds being in the background. This CD is one of those musical treasures that hasn't seen a lot of exposure but is nonetheless very slick without sounding gimmicky and a welcomed addition for music lovers.

Backpacking with a Bose Wave Radio,

This review is from: The Forest Show (Audio CD)
There is something sublime about combining the sound of nature with the music of human-made instruments. This work gives the listener the rich synergy of audio excellence and the freedom of all outdoors. The resulting harmony is a haunting reminder of our dual responsibilities to take care of the environment and create Art that compliments the Creator. The human spirit soars with the melodies of this work. It is like reading the Psalms beside the sea. It is like sipping wine in front of a fire. It is like kissing your lover in a forest glade. This is music that elevates and awakens.
