4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, but some good hits were left off, February 25, 2001

This is a great CD of one of the great female country groups of the eighties and nineties. The only problem I have with it is that some very good hits were left off. Hits like "Lyin' In His Arms Again", "Mama's Never Seen Those Eyes", and "Men". My feeling is that if you are going to make a "greatest hits" CD, please, make sure that all of your hits are on there before you include songs that were not really "great" hits, like "Don't You"

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent summary of their career, December 14, 1998
By
Bradley Olson (Bemidji, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Forester Sisters - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This greatest hits collection contains 10 of their biggest hits form 1985-1989, although quite a few of their hits that were released from this time period are missing, notably "Lying In His Arms Again," their remake of the Brenda Lee classic "Too Many Rivers," and "Mama's Never Seen Those Eyes." What is on here is some beautiful 4 part harmony that is just as influenced by vocal pop and gospel as it is influenced by country. Some of the highlights on this compilation are their first hit "(That's What You Do) When You're In Love," "(I'd Choose) You Again," "Lonely Alone," "Sincerely", which is a remake of the McGuire Sisters' classic, Letter Home and manymore. All of these highlights plus more make this an excellent CD to add to your collection. Aside from the McGuire Sisters, Chordettes and other female vocal groups from the 1950's, female harmony in the 1980's doesn't get better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional southern country music at its best!, April 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Forester Sisters - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Although the Forester Sisters were at their peak before I became a country music fan, over the past few years I have "discovered" them and their beautiful vocals. Today's modern country and rock lack the soul and feeling that comes across so vividly in this collection. Songs like Letters Home, Lonely Alone, and You Again make this albulm a must have for any true country music fan! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Country at it's best, September 2, 2000

This CD is proof that country was once great and still is. 5 years ago i met the foresters sisters in a USO military show. Seeing them in person only convinced me more that they were one of the best all female groups of their time! the only one thing missing from this CD is one of their most famous songs....... "MEN". I recommend this to anyone who loves the old style country, and even the country today!

I was not familiar with the Forrester Sisters until I recently heard one of their songs on the radio, and was prompted to buy this CD. Their harmony is wonderful and the songs are romantic and upbeat.

I listen to music every day it is my business to listen because I do a Country Music Radio show once a week. I don't think our Female Artists are getting as much airplay as they deserve, although this is slowly changing for the better. The Forester Sisters came to my attention through a single track "Lyin' In His Arms Again". The first time I heard these girls harmonising together I knew I was listening to a unique talent. I bought their "Greatest Hits" album and I love it.
I have just bought their current album. I am sure other listeners will enjoy the Forester Sisters as much as I am.

4.0 out of 5 stars good album, July 15, 2009
This review is from: The Forester Sisters - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
My favorite song on this album is "Lonely Alone," though anyone who likes the Forester Sisters, as I do, will like any song on this album, as I do. They are a great group with great harmonies, and this is a great album. I love it and you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars They Won Me Over, January 8, 2008
This review is from: The Forester Sisters - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I grew up during the 30's and 40's, so I listened to the Andrew Sisters. During to 50's I listened to the Chordettes and the McGuire Sisters. But none of them compares with these Forester Sisters. Not only is their harmony beautiful, it is DISTINCT. By that I mean when you listen to them you can actually pick out every voice. Having sung in, and listened to, vocal groups all my life, being able to hear the bottom voices is rare. Of course you know they're there for they make up the harmony, but it is difficult to pick them out. This is not true of the Forester Sisters. Their overall blend is comparable to the immortal sound of the inimitable Mills Brothers, but the great pleasure that comes to a vocal group enthusiast, such as myself, is when you can hear every voice that makes up the harmony. That's the Forester Sisters.

But one does not have to be a vocal group enthusiast to enjoy the singing of this quartet. You can forget their technical proficiancy and just sit back and listen to them sing. I promise you you will go away singing their songs. If an artist can cause you to do that they're worth listening to. I have this and another of their recordings, "Greatest Gospel Songs." As a result I thought they only sang religious songs. But I still enjoyed their singing, even though as an African American I sang gospel and jubilee songs in the storefront churches of Brooklyn. It just goes to show you that good music -- especially that of the human voice -- transcends time, race and culture and touches every one.

Enough already. Buy the CD. You'll it.

If you like older four-part harmony, then you'll like the Forester Sisters. I'm not a big country fan, but I do like their style. Very pretty harmonious voices...
