Editorial Reviews

2013 release, the fifth album from the Chicago-based Post-Metal band. Forever Becoming was produced by Chris Common, formerly of These Arms Are Snakes, who also previously produced Pelican's 2009 studio album, What We All Come to Need. Forever Becoming is the first Pelican album since the band's inception in 2001 to not feature founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec.

This is only the second review I have ever written for Amazon; the other one was a Pelican album too. I am going to keep this short and to the point. I was worried because I love Laurent's playing and, having seen the mighty Pelican live, he is just really cool (as is the whole band). Rest assured fans (that is who I am writing this for), no need to be worried!! This record is fantastic! As with every Pelican record, my soul and body are moved by the music. I have listened to it twice now, and it is a wondrous, emotional journey.

I listen to many of the great instrumental bands of the last decade plus and I love this style of music. I have always thought there are many great artists in the post-rock, instrumetal,or whatever the heck people label this genre, but none of them touch Pelican. After listening to Forever Becoming, I still feel this way.

Way to go Pelican and thanks for another "album of the year"

This album is just really, really good. It's dark and it's heavy but it's not heavy metal. These guys have a really unique style of playing (guitar) that is different from metal but I think most fans of metal (or at least Tool) will enjoy this album.

I never thought I would say I got turn on to a cool heavy band while listening to NPR, but that's how I discovered Pelican.

Very well recorded and cool grooves. I plan to buy more of their stuff.

To quote the band Pelican lyrics, "...". It's instrumetal's quintessential band. If you are just getting into this music, start with The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the thaw and Russian Circles "Enter". For those familiar, it's more of the same, which is to say it's great.

Pelican rips.

There's really nothing more to say. Obviously as they work together for longer the sound gets more sophisticated, but the desire to reach new heights never ends and Forever Becoming is yet another installment in the fine work from this artists.
