Product Description

The permanent solution to sun-faded bumpers and trim moldings. Forever Black restores a dark, black, finish on sun-faded bumpers and body moldings. This is not a cosmetic dressing. It's an easy-to-use permanent dye. It permanently dyes all textured black plastic, rubber and vinyl with the same polymers that the manufacturers use. It is not a silicone dressing - silicone products will make plastic, vinyl and rubber appear to have regained their color but the change is temporary. Plus, silicone oils have been known to dry out the applied areas creating a bigger problem. Silicone also tends to leave a greasy residue even after buffing. Use on: Bumpers, Wheel Wells, Moldings, Side Moldings, Mud Guards, Door Handles, Spoilers, Mirrors, Boat and RV Trim, Running Boards Permanently recolors and protects all black plastic, vinyl & rubber surfaces on your car without silicone Environmentally safe and dries in minutes Water resistant and won't attract dust Protects against UV damage Forever BLACKTM Bumper & Trim Cleaner and Reconditioner has become America's #1 choice for restoring black bumpers & trim. Permanently recolor and protect all black plastic, vinyl & rubber surfaces on your car without silicone. We use the same chemicals that the manufacturers use. This product does not attract dust. Protects against U.V. damage.

All the trim and bumpers look better than new.

Then, and in my opinion only then, will you have a properly prepped surface to apply the Forever Black dye.

This is an amazing product. I have a 2004 Volvo XC70 whose black bumper and other trim had faded to grey pretty badly. (I am sure many readers have seen Volvo's with trim that has faded really badly.) I used to treat the trim with Mother's Back to Black and it made the trim look great....until it rained, which caused the product to run and cause streaks in the trim...making it look even worse than before I even treated it.

The important factors in using Forever Black are preparation and patience. Preparation: The product comes packaged with a cleanser and an applicator bottle. I took my time and cleansed my trim three times, very well, with the cleanser. Then carefully I dried it. Patience: Once I started to apply the dye, the trim absorbed it like a sponge. I was concerned at first because of the rate at which the product was being absorbed; I was afraid I did not have enough product to do the job. Well, I persevered and after about 6 full applications on all of the black trim, it looked better than brand new. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bottle of product was still about half full!

Even now, several months (and several rainfalls) later, the trim still looks better than it did when the car was new. I am in love with this product, and whenever I am out driving the car, I love the puzzled looks I get from others (especially other XC70 owners) because my car blows theirs away with its good looks. I am waiting for someone to approach me one day and ask, "What in the world did you do?"

Great job, Forever Black! You have an excellent product here. Don't stop making it!!

Everything people say about how well this product works is true. It's nothing short of amazing.

The person who gave it 1 star and mentioned the problems with the applicator is correct - that can happen.

So, the best way I have found to use this product (I've done 3 trucks) is to pour the dye into a disposable plastic container and use a cheap disposable foam paint applicator. Works like a charm plus you can use the foam brush that best suits the area you are dying. Makes it easier, cleaner and faster than using the built in foam dabber especially for small trim, corners, tight areas, etc.

I do something similar with tire dressing like Black Magic Tire wet. I pour it into a cup and use a paint brush to apply it.

I use this stuff quite a bit in my mobile detailing business. The results you'll get is all about A.) how discolored the area to be treated is, B.) The amount of discoloration variation on the area treated C.) the prep. work, and. D.) Realistic expectations if A. and B. are 'fairly bad' to 'OMG that looks awful and I can't stand it anymore.'

To be frank, the cleaner included isn't so great. Especially if there is relatively heavy wax/silicone/sealant build up on the area to be treated. My recommendation would be to first use the provided cleaner as directed; then, after rinsing and allowing to dry, use Griot's Garage 11071 Rubber Prep - 16 oz. as directed. THEN (bear with me) clean again with the cleaner provided by Forever Black. Then, and in my opinion only then, will you have a properly prepped surface to apply the Forever Black dye.

To be frank, if there is a circumstance in which the Forever Black dye can only be applied once (one layer) with satisfactory results (even after all of the above prep work) I've just never run into it. For one, the applicator is overly porous foam: foam holds air: air makes bubbles: bubbles make imperfections in the application. Second, you've got to have next to perfect/new trim to start with for this product to not streak...and even then it streaks a bit. In the end, severely weathered trim will need about 6 or 7 passes for the people who are willing to buy this stuff to be happy.

Even though I use Forever Black quite a bit, I'm only giving it three stars for the following reasons:
1.) The cleaner provided... is not good.
2.) Forever Black (the company) absolutely must know that the applicator is sub-optimal.
3.

I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the bumpers and trim had faded to a shade of gray that was almost white. Although it took two bottles of the Forever Black and alot of time/effort to restore the plastic, by the time I had finished it looked new again. Actually, I'm not sure it was that black when I bought it 8 years ago. I waited 4 months before writing this review to see how long it would last before washing off and it hasn't yet. I haven't applied any other products during this period and it actually looks as shiny and black as it did the day I put it on. This product is like a miracle cure for tired, old cars.

I was one of those people who tried this and found it to be a waste of time - Initially!
I cleaned my plastic trim with the supplied cleaner diligently. Followed all the steps, etc. I had applied various silicon based dressings over the years and the cleaner really didn't get it off. The result was a disaster. I applied this on a relatively small area and it looked terrible.
I gave up after that, but decided to try it again a few months later.

This time I tried a different approach!

Follow this at your own risk!

I used a product called goof off (used to remove paint splatters from various surfaces) to clean my plastic trim. I knew it worked when the rag I applied it with came away jet black on my faded plastic parts. Don't get this stuff on your car paint!

Anyway, after cleaning with goof off it worked like a dream. Applying this product with my own foam brush after that resulted in a smooth, uniform black finish. Worked great!

I went from a 2 star opinion to a 5 star opinion based on getting the old crud off using goof off (available at lowes and home depot I think).
