5.0 out of 5 stars able to relate
I read this story to my foster daughter who has RAD. I did find it was a bit long to read in one sitting, but we did it, and she was attentive. At the end she said "That's like me isnt it." "And you're like the old couple, you love me even when I'm bad." I think it is a great story that kids like this can relate to and help them to understand more why they feel what...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth my time or money
Having read other reviews, I was really excited about this series. I have three children adopted from the foster care system. What I found is that each of these books would have played into my children's fairy tale view of the world, where all things are given to children without any effort or cooperation on the child's part. Also, the authors seem to recommend no...

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME and wonderfully written, March 10, 2006
This review is from: The Forever Child: A Tale of Anger and Fear (Paperback)
I bought this for my 10 year old daughter whom my husband and i adopted last year. This book was exceptional in interperting her feelings. She has RAD so any book that you can read with your child and both come away with love for each other is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Forever Child, March 16, 2008
This review is from: The Forever Child: A Tale of Anger and Fear (Paperback)
The book is exceptionally well written. I deal with foster care children and parents and I plan to refer them to this book because it reallhy helps to put things in perspective and explains the behaviors of the children they take into their home. the parenting tips were wonderful. I would recommend this book to any one who adopts or fosters children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bbedtime reading for kids with attatchment disorders, July 30, 2008
This review is from: The Forever Child: A Tale of Anger and Fear (Paperback)
I found this book easy to read to my 10 year old,who has adhd & attachment
disorder.Being written in fairytale format means it can deal with a lot of issues which could be difficult to approach with children of this sort of age.It certainly encouraged my son to discuss some issues from his past he had not felt able to talk about previously. The parenting guide in the the back was also useful & would have been even more so for someone who didn't
already have some knowledge of attachment issues & how they effect children.
I would certainly recommend it to anyone bringing up a traumatized child
whether fostered, adopted, or biological as my son is.

Having read other reviews, I was really excited about this series. I have three children adopted from the foster care system. What I found is that each of these books would have played into my children's fairy tale view of the world, where all things are given to children without any effort or cooperation on the child's part. Also, the authors seem to recommend no consequences and a love-conquers-all approach to raising attachment disordered children. Oh, if only that would work! It doesn't.

If you have a child or know of a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder this is a great book. It created a wonderful talking point with my two RAD kids who identified with it far more than with other publications we have purchased in the past

It's a tough book. It helps my daughter a lot to understand her agression. She likes to hear it read to her.

If you are planning to or have recently begun foster parenting and your kids have even the most subtle attachment issue, READ THIS BOOK. This is a great cautionary tale for parents wanting to support a child who has lived through trauma.
