5.0 out of 5 stars They are the chosen ones, August 28, 2002

Freezepop's music can heal. I had a painful burn that went away after I touched the speakers out from which "Science Genius Girl" was pumping. The blippy beats and lo-fi, high concept goodness also helped my cat. He had this fear of my new couch. But when "Tender Lies" was playing, he seemed comfortable approaching it. Now he and the couch are good friends, all thanks to Freezepop. I have friends who say they've seen Freezepop walk on water. No kidding. It was on that river that runs through Boston, whatever it's called. And they've healed lepers. And there are three of them. THREE. Think about it - if the godhead were to come to earth, wouldn't he appear as a trio of whip-smart, deconstructed versions of 80's pop icons? I think you can put it all together. Buy this album, and win the approval of the deity. So let it be written...so let it be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Synth Pop Genius Girl (and Boys), June 2, 2003
This review is from: Forever (Audio CD)
This CD demonstrates why they won US Synth Pop Band of the Year award. Synth pop is their canvas, and they are masters of their art.

They have a touch of genius about everything they do - the 80s style lyrics and vocal tones, their awesome synth sounds, the clothes they wear, even the self-made flash videos on the website. All done with a hint of retro comedy running through everything.

This CD will put a smile on the face of any synth pop fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic US Synthpop, clever and fun!, December 21, 2001
This review is from: Forever (Audio CD)
Gotta love a band who makes most (all?) their music on a tiny Yamaha QY70. Those who complain the record is cheesy and thin sounding miss the joke frankly. The band is having a lot of fun but at the same time obviously is able to write some killer tunes. Warning, if you are a musical diabetic and think Radiohead has sold out then you will probably not get this record. But if you like pop with some wit and cleverness, dive right in!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Freezepop forever and ever and ever and ever...., April 27, 2002

I discovered Freezepop while playing a PS2 game, Frequency, which featured the song Science Genius Girl. Since I couldn't get that song out of my head, I decided to try to learn more about this unique group. Their dedication to music and the personality/unity of their members seduced me, and I soon became the owner of Forever, and their second album Fashion Impression Function EP(featuring 5 remix of this first album, plus new songs and videos).

The fact is that their music mostly feature electronic sounds, as synthpop usually implies, but it is all programmed on such a small machine, you wonder how it is actually possible to fit so much and create a whole album with it. The downside is, of course, that the sound quality is not top notch...yet I don't care! The rhythms are almost PERFECT, and the voice of Liz is MESMERIZING...Okay, maybe I'm overreacting, but one of the strengths of their music is the quality and depth of their lyrics and songs...Still, they manage to keep a good deal of humor and light-heartedness in their works.

I would recommend this album to any one who enjoys non-mainstream pop music, and who's looking for a young, promising group....plus any one who sampled their music in Frequency and enjoyed Science Genius Girl...you'll find even better on this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stealing the show..., May 17, 2002

I'd never heard Freezepop until I saw them as an opening band for Apoptygma Berzerk.

I left the show with both of their CDs and the only reason I lacked a tshirt was they were out of "fat white guy" size wise.

I listen to Forever the entire drive home from Boston (about 2.5 playings) and it stayed in the CD player for three days after.

If you love electronic pop and miss the glory days of the Human League and OMD then buy this album now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Synth Pop since heyday of the "Pirate Shirt", May 20, 2003

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Having been a synth pop fan from the late 70s (Gary Numan [first 3 albums], Kraftwerk) and into the 80s (Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Yaz, Men Without Hats, Erasure, OMD, many others), I hadn't heard anything decent in a long time from a new artist in the genre. I suppose it has a lot to do with the fact that the radio stations stopped playing alternative dance music about 12 years ago...!

One afternoon, I spent a LOT of time on MP3, just looking for something new in the category. I found lots of bands (interesting side note: a lot from northern Europe; don't know how to explain that fact) but found most to be lacking in one way or another, particularly due to bad vocals.

Then, I happened upon Freezeop; after hearing a few samples, I ordered the "Forever" CD from Amazon, and once I played it at home I couldn't believe how great this group is! Very simple, very organized, very neat, very cool pop. The louder the better!

I love this group and hope to catch them live someday. My only fear: that I listen to the CD so much that I get tired of it. Can't wait for the next album.

Freezepop are Forever!
