Patrick Smith is one of my favorite writers. His ability to transform me from where I am into the middle of the everglades blows me away! I love the history, geography and attention to detail in Forever Island! I must admit the ending did surprise me! Great book, if you love Florida you will love all of his writings.

A must read for all Florida residents, old and new
Great story of early Florida

I have read some of Patrick Smith's other works and this ranks right at the top. His books are hard to put down once you start. He writes of characters you can emphasize with and of the trials and tribulations of simpler times of living off the land. I just wish he had written more books!

I enjoyed the stories contained in this anthology by Patrick Smith. I loved A Land to Remember felt this collection was in keeping with his old style. Enjoyable.

After thoroughly enjoying Smith's "A Land Remembered" I enthusiastically bought this 2 stories in 1 volume. And was quite disappointed. Both stories are about the plight of the Seminole tribe and other indigenous people of Florida. The historical elements may be accurate but the writing is weak. Especially Allapattah ... the actions of the "hero" were so stupid that I found it hard to have sympathy for what he was going through.
