This is one of the best books I have ever read bar none, I have seen every episode of the television series a number of times, and the author positively has the flavor of the characters down pat. This book is very well thought out and very well written. I pray that Susan M. Garrett writes many more Forever Knight novels, as devoted Forever Knight Fans such as myself have had our hearts ripped out at the cancellation of this great series. Way to go Susan M. Garrett!

Susan Garrett, in remaining true to the characters of the television show Forever Knight, has not only managed to go beyond the premise of Nick Knight's angst of his killer nature and desire to escape his dark world of almost 800 years, but also make him ask: What does humanity stand for? And what makes someone human? Faced with two different worlds, his dream world brought upon by a mysterious doll, and the real world, Nick soon finds himself torn between himself as a vampire in the real world, and mortal in the dream world. In his dream world, he must choose between personal desires and what is best for himself and other mortals. At the same time, the vampires (who are mortals in the real world, i.e. Natalie) must struggle between the vampire law, the bloodlust that helps them survive, and their lingering attachments to the mortal world left behind, as well as feelings for some of those mortals. The mirror effect, at times poignant and at times joyous, manages to convey Nick's struggle between mortality, justice, and love; the issue of his very survival in each existence making him question what it means to "walk in the light", particularly when the worlds collide, with very mixed results.

The moral seems to be that "the grass is not always greener", that mortality does not necessarily equal morality and that what Nick Knight may ultimately seek is not mortality per se, but redemption. Wonderful job!

As a dedicated Forever Knight fan I was devestated when they cancelled this amazing series. I had no idea there were any Forever Knight novels out. When I stumbled across Intimations, I immediatly bought it. I read couldn't put it down, and had it read in a few hours! It was exciting and dramatic, and really captured the characters. It was a great book and I hope that Susan Garrett writes many more books!

This FK novel was the one that most quickly captured my attention and effortlessly held it throughout the reading. The flip-flopping of Nick's dream-world and reality had some elements of one of my favorite FK episodes (Curiouser and Curiouser), but handled in a new, unique story. I've seen all the FK episodes multiple times and have them all on tape. I really wanted to get to the end of this one. It was not hard to immerse myself in it from the time I started reading it, because it was like reading a "lost episode" of Forever Knight -- probably the best compliment one can give fan fiction. Definitely a fun read.

I see by past reviews that it's been a while since anyone new read or reviewed this book here at Amazon... I recalled seeing Susan Garrett a number of years ago at Shore Leave, but, like a dunce, I did not purchase her book at that time and have it autographed. (Hope springs eternal that she will return someday to Shore Leave.)

As to the story itself, well, as we know, Detective Knight has been searching for, what, 800 years, for a way to regain his mortality. He is given quite an interesting way in this finely-written novel - but these things never come without a price. I found the storyline difficult to follow at first, but once I got the hang of it, it proved to be incredibly intense and very, very clever. Whether you buy from the bookstore or from the Goodwill, go ahead and get yourself a copy. You won't be disappointed.

And in the meantime, I'll watch for Geraint Wyn Davies in the SciFi Channel's new show, "Tracker."

The story opens with Nick Knight, Toronto police detective and vampire continuing his quest to regain his mortality. Natalie Lambert, mortal, police coroner and Nick's would be lover, has returned from a trip to NY where she has picked up a dream doll that Nick had located in an occult shop. Nick had been told that the doll would help him achieve his most heartfelt desire, an idea that ever practical Natalie discounts. The doll does cause Nick to alternate between realities - his current reality of being a vampire in a mortal world and his dream state of being a mortal in a world filled by vampires.

As with all tie-in novels there are no permanent changes made to the existing universe but the story does raise interesting questions to the nature of reality.

For fans of Forever Knight this is an excellent read. The characters are all true to the series and the action is faithful to the timeline of the last half of the final season. The interactions of the various characters and how they change as the realities shift is done quite well.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Forever Knight world this would be a very confusing and frustrating place to begin.

I've read two of the FK books and this is my favorite.

Nick gets a doll which is supposed to help him become human, but there's a price... The doll causes him to dream of an alternate world and each time he dreams he physically becomes more human, but... (hint?)

Tho' the dreams in the book are simular to a TV episode where Nick dreamed everthing was turned upside down (switching peoples lives and personalities) - these dreams also switch the physical making vampires human and humans vampires.

The rest of the book was interesting, but I especially loved the dream sequences. Here Nick, LaCroix, a briefly Janette are human and the world is ruled by vampires. Nick is still a cop - one of the few who are still human. Natalie is a vampire and wants to bring him across. But LaCroix is the best character of all as the leader of the human resistance.

I previously read "A Stirring of Dust" and felt like I was being dragged thru the dust. There was little mystery and even the main character "Nick" couldn't seem to stir up any enthusiasum for the hunt.

This book, tho', moved quickly along - keeping my attention. I couldn't wait to see how it ended and my only regret is that it ended too soon.

Here's hoping Ms. Garrett writes more...

This was a great extension of the TV series. The concept of exchanging the vampire and mortal characters was original and well thought out. Susan Garrett has a great understanding of the characters and I hope we see more Forever Knight novels written by her.

Even if you have never seen the Forever Knight television series this is a gripping novel. The main character, Nick, has two realities. One while awake and one while sleeping. Each reality flows into the other building tension and keeping the reader on edge. Even if it is your intention to read slowly, it is impossible with this exciting story. Susan Garrett's knowledge and love for the characters is very apparent. I would definately recommend this book and would buy any other book that Susan Garrett writes.

For fans of the TV show Forever Knight, fans of Vampires, Scince Fiction or even just exciting drama, I highly recommend Susan's book. She does an excellent job of capturing the characters and their struggles as both vampires and mortals. In Susan's topsy turvy Forever Knight Universe, it's difficult to point out the bad guys or even choose a side. It's exciting from the beginning and my only disappointment was in putting it down at the end. Buy it, read it, you'll definitely enjoy it!
