5.0 out of 5 stars FOREVER KNIGHT soundtrack truly worthy music of the night!

3.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric soundtracks AND the best vampire pop of the 80s
I'm delighted to see these 2 discs here, because I think Fred Mollin's stylish and versatile work for "Forever Knight" has been criminally overlooked, and deserves a much wider audience. Here you get the best of it: not only his dramatic, atmospheric orchestral suites for some of the best episodes in the series, but also four gorgeous, dark-romantic pop songs that could...

An even greater joy was the inclusion of Nigel Bennett as the voice of the series' dark lord "LaCroix", speaking the words and thoughts of LaCroix. The series may be ended, but thanks to this recording, the soul of FOREVER KNIGHT lives on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply FANG-tastic!!!!!!!!, February 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Being an FK fan to the core, even though I only recently discovered the show, I ran out and bought the CD without sampling it, just the theme music makes it worth buying!!! The vocals of Lori Yates are fantastic...still haven't decided which song is my fave, it's a toss up between the Hunger and Dark Side of the Glass. For anyone interested in listening to some spectacular music...GO BUY THIS CD!!!! You won't regret it!!! I think that Geraint Wyn Davies does a out-of-this-world job on the piano (Nick's Piano Theme has to be my fave piece of the whole CD)....and what can I say, I love Fred Mollin! I have listened to the CD non-stop, for weeks now, without tiring of it (I bet the rest of my collection feels neglected!!!) When can we get another CD from FK????!!! Please let it be soon!!! One truly satisfied customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The legacy of vampire homicide detective Nick Knight lives!!, March 7, 2002
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
"Forever Knight" was a fabulous(ly cheesy) Canadian sci-fi series that was filmed and set in Toronto. It lasted for three seasons and revolved around the unlife of Toronto homicide detective Nick Knight, a 700-year old vampire who longed to be mortal and redeem himself from centuries of killing and blood.

Much of the soundtrack's score is devoted to the flashback scenes from centuries past, of the bloodlust that consumes Nick, his master LaCroix, and his lover/vampire sibling Janette, so it is appropriately dark and moody, with heavy percussion, ominous strings and sudden crashes. There are softer, gentler songs as well, such as "Suite from Queen of Harps" and "Nick's Lullaby."

The music is 100% synth(etic), which may be a turnoff for some but Fred Mollin's music sets the stage perfectly for midnight prowls through Toronto's seedier, darker side. The songs with vocals by Torontonian Lori Yates (originally a country singer) are my favourite parts of the soundtrack. There are four songs from the first two seasons: "The Hunger," "Black Rose," "Touch the Night" and "Dark Side of the Glass." These songs are dark and brooding, played in LaCroix's vampire/Goth club "The Raven" (the actual building was the Fluid Lounge at 217 Richmond W).

This is a must-have companion for fans of "Forever Knight," along with the sequel CD "More Music from Forever Knight." There were also three FK novels published: "These Our Revels" by Anne Hathaway-Nayne, where Nick performs in Shakespeare's company, "Intimations of Mortality" by Susan M. Garrett, and "A Stirring of Dust" by Susan Sizemore. Although the show is no longer on the air, the vampiric legacy of Nick Knight lives on through the music of Fred Mollin. Ten stars and lots of happy memories!

This Cd is the first Forever Knight one I purchased. It blew me away. I can't get enough of listening to it. All music on this album reminds me of the series which was and is the best on TV. This is also a must for all Forever Knight fans. It is haunting and will give hours of listening pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best CD, it is simply wonderful, January 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This CD can please everybody. You can listen to 14 instrumentals songs that's gonna remind you scene of your favourite serie, one of theme is perfomed by Nick (GWD). You can also listen to 4 of Lacroix's monologues, they are short but very good. And you can listen to 4 songs with lyrics with the vocal by Lori Yates, the voice that you're use to hear at the Raven. My favourites are The Hunger (#2), Dark Side of the Glass (#22) and the Forever Knight Theme (#1) I also love all 4 of Lacroix's monologues (#3,10,14,21) and Nick's piano theme (#7). But they are all very, very, very good.

If you are a Forever Knight fan you're gonna love this CD, actually if you're an FK fan you can't live without this CD. So my advice is: Buy as many CD as you can afford, you need one at home, one at work, on in your car(maybe a tape) on at all your friends and relatives house. You're gonna want to listen to it 24 hours a day.

I got it a month ago and my CD player doesn't stop playing it, I'm listening to it all the time ( it's playing right now). It's a WONDERFUL CD.

Sylvie

5.0 out of 5 stars A Haunting and Engaging Look at Immortality, October 9, 1998
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Being a Forever Knight fan myself, I knew there was no way I could go without this CD, especially after the show's cancellation. I must say it is mesmerizing. Nigel Bennett's monlogues and Lori Yates' vocals are the real highlight of this album. Nigel knows exactly what needs to be put forward for LaCroix and we almost feel as if we're listening to a live Nightcrawler broadcast--makes me wish there were such a late-night radio show! Lori is phenomenal, as usual, gracing us with her song, bringing the voice of the lost and desperate vampire center stage and allowing us FK fans to re-live many a Forever Knight memory(a good thing for us who still mourn the cancellation!). Fred Mollin--what can I say? A true master of his craft. He knows just what we want to hear and lays it out for us just within our grasp. It's electronic and monotone, yes, but since when did a vampire need extra instrumentation to accentuate his emotions? LaCroix had his violin, Nick the piano(and and impressive turn for Geraint Wyn Davies with his rendition of Nick's theme on track 7!) I am eagerly awaiting the release of the follow-up CD by Crescendo in the winter on 98 or Spring of 99...it promises much more Nick and LaCroix moments! All hail to Fred Mollin, Forever Knight soundtrack God! \/'' ''\/

5.0 out of 5 stars This is just great!, January 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I have had the CD for about two years and I never tire of it. A fan to the end, and beyond, I am able to hear the show in the woderful music of Fred Mollin. It's perfect in it's portrayl of the main character, Nick. Also, it has the ability to pull at your emotions. Not tug, more like yank. I could be in a quite room listeneing, and suddenly suspence music goes on and I am suddnely on the edge of my seat! The music is great! As for the vocal songs, they are just fantastic. Lori Yates has a beautiful voice and it is just right for the songs that are sung on this soundtrack. The songs themeselves tell us so much about the character without saying a word about him. Their beautiful and they can really move you if you listen. I DEFINATELY suggest to anyone who reads this to buy the CD. Be you fan, or music lover, it's a great investment that you won't get tired of. P.S. There's another one on the way! I suggest you check back soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Melancholy yet proud 22-track elegy of life of deathless cop, July 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The music has an almost classical sound to it. The vocals in the songs are pop but sad, as in sorrowful.

Like the famous Star Wars soundtracks, this music makes you aware of the fierce determination of its hero. However, instead of a large orchestra playing the instrumentals, you hear only a few instruments - giving you a feeling of the loneliness and isolation of the subject of the songs & music. The dominant instruments are strings, with some brass thrown in, and occasionally some percussion to add some punctuation.

Also, whereas the music of the Star Wars movie charges along like an army unchallenged, the music of Forever Knight seems to walk slowly along under a dark thundercloud. You definitely get a sense of a character who is trying to compress a single lifetime into all of eternity. Like a Tai Chi martial artist he is not squandering his energy, but neither is he shying away from using it when the time is right.

This is the theme music of a character who is not trying to make, change, or control his world - just save the little pieces of it that he finds dear.

If you are a Forever Knight fan, one copy of this CD is barely enough. Familiar scenes will pop into your head when you listen to it. The actors' and actresses' faces will appear in your mind's eye.

If you are not a fan of the series but just like somber classical music and an occasional pop ballad, I think you will also like this song. This is not music for a birthday party. It is not a celebration of the moment: it is for listening to while reflecting on the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to The Raven, have a drink!, October 22, 2006

Carlos Santillan (Mexico City, Mexico.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Since that moment when, one night several years ago I discovered a TV series on vampires and I watched the interaction between some of the best characters that I've ever seen on TV: Nick, Lacroix, Janette, Natalie, Schanke, while playing on the background or listening to the Main Theme Title, I could listen to the music of the great composer Fred Mollin, I was immediatly captured and I became a fan of Forever Knight.

This is a very special volume with jewels like "Nick's Piano Theme" performed by Geraint Wyn Davies himself, or another one: for those lovers of the Celtic culture the suite from the "Queen of Harps".

It's a real delight to the senses to listen to the performance of Lori Yates on those, now classic themes like: "The Hunger", "Black Rose" & "Touch the Night". While interspersed amongst the tracks one can listen to the magnetic, captivating voice of our favorite "uncle" Lacroix (Nigel Bennet).

Forever Knight , The Original Television Soundtrack is a must buy to fans of this series, and if you are a newcomer, rest assured that this is an excellent CD. (There's a second volume too) 22 tracks, a booklet with color pictures of cast and composer
