Editorial Reviews

Review

Forever in One Second is witty, filled with action and shocking twists that will have you wondering what could possible happen next. It also has the m/m hotness that I love and can’t get enough of. Great story and characters.”

—Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

“Finn Marlowe has created an outstanding saga exhibited in an upbeat scenario. The realistic main characters display an absolutely superb interaction as well as an amazing chemistry inside and out of the bedroom.”

—Literary Nymphs on Forever in One Second

“I just [couldn’t] wait to get started and see how the author will use the elements of BDSM in his/her characters. I believe that Finn has done a great job with that aspect in this story. She took a shifter and a werewolf, and made it work.”

Forever in One Second
Paramedic Courtenay Woods volunteered to help with search and rescue of the tornado's victims. Court found Dane Harper buried under a pile of rubble, unmoving and lifeless. Having the power to cheat death, Court places his hands on Dane's chest manipulating that one second of fate to save Dane's life.

Forever in One Second is a profound plot dealing with the many psychological side effects triggered by traumatic events. Symptoms of nightmares, chronic despair, perpetual fear of public places, borderline panic attacks and becoming a religious fanatic are featured. Nevertheless, the characters are incredibly witty, enriching the morose theme to an appealing and enjoyable position. The storyline illustrates the special gifts that are an element in some personalities. Court can heal injuries but not disease. He feels guilty because of his limitations. Court has survived a traumatic experience in the Middle East; however Court was left mentally broken in a number of ways. Now Court considers himself as a freak, unworthy of love. By saving Dane's life, Court also saves his own. Dane is like an unstoppable force of nature, the eternal optimist who refuses to allow Court to flounder in misery. Dane has the ability to instigate laughter from anyone in his company. Between Dane's exceptional lovemaking skills and his sparkling personality, Court's tortured mind began to heal.

Finn Marlowe has created an outstanding saga exhibited in an upbeat scenario. The realistic main characters display an absolutely superb interaction as well as an amazing chemistry inside and out of the bedroom.

The first chapter of this book is.... intense. Right from the start I was drawn into the story and the characters problems and didn't want to put the book down.

Dane is a man who's sick of living in the city so he moves home after his brother's death. While working one day, he gets caught right in the middle of a tornado. Crushed, and on the very edge of dying, Courtenay shows up from Search and Rescue. Courtenay knows Dane is dying, he can feel it but he also remembers Dane and he can't just let the boy he knew die. So, he heals him. Gifted with the ability to 'wish' people better, he gives Dane a second chance at life. When Dane heals, he's grateful that Court was able to save him but more than that he wants Court. And what Dane wants, Dane gets. Unfortunately for Dane, he didn't realize how messed up Court was or how many dangerous people want Court for his ability and they aren't afraid to resort to extreme measures to get him. This starts them on a roller coaster of a relationship that both Dane and Court want but Court believes he doesn't deserve.

I have to say I absolutely adored Dane and Court. Dane is so full of life. He's exuberant, abrasive, and quite a handful. Court is just the opposite. He's quiet, extremely broken and feels like he should have died during of a fairly recent event. It may not seem like it but Dane heals Court by being his forceful and blunt self. The two together are both hot and funny. Dane has a knack for making all these elaborate plans that Court hates sticking with but when Court makes the plans, they always turn out horribly. One of the things I really loved about them, though, is their references to when they were younger and the nicknames they had for each other then. It was just so cute.

Dane Harper is nearly killed in a tornado, but is brought back from the brink by a familiar EMT. He heals quickly--almost miraculously so--and afterward he decides to make the most of his life. Part of that is finding his rescuer, Courtenay "Court" Woods, a childhood friend of Dane's late brother's.

Finding Court is easy. Getting Court to let Dane into his life isn't. Once Court lets Dane in, however, will Court's dangerous secrets be the end of them both?

Forever in One Second has a very cool premise. I'm fascinated by superpower-like abilities, and Court's definitely fit the bill. The story began wonderfully, with a suspenseful tornado and rescue section. Dane and Court's first re-meeting was interesting too, with just the right balance of antagonism and desire. After that, though, the story began to lose some of its impact in my eyes. Court's abilities were cool, as were the bizarre and mysterious dreams he had, but his relentless waffling and wallowing in his guilt wore on me. Dane also started off very likable, but his bossy attitude and tendency to charge in without thinking caused a lot of problems.

The storyline itself is engaging, with a lot of chases, suspense, and opposing forces seeking to control Court's ability--or to destroy it. Secondary characters with shadowy motives pop up here and there, and it's hard to tell who the villains are. There are a lot of genuinely suspenseful segments. The problems, for me, were mostly caused by Dane. I normally like quite a bit of sex, but it seemed like there was too much of it during pivotal times (shouldn't these guys be trying to get away or something?), and when Court would try to be sensible he ended up being overruled by Dane.
