3.0 out of 5 stars Broadway review with some goods songs
I saw this off Broadway and remembered enjoying it so when I saw the CD I decided to take a chance. It's OK but it was much better in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forever Wonderful!, September 9, 2001

Here is a thin thread of a show held together by the music captured here in the original cast album. The plot, just in case you have not seen "Forever Plaid," is barely there, nor is it important! All you really need do is sit back and listen to the wonderful songs from the 1950's: "Moments to Remember" and "No Not Much" among the showstoppers. There are even tributes to The Ed Sullivan Show and The Perry Como Show found here.

It's all in fun, it's all in nostalgia, but more importantly, it's all in innocence. Will there ever be a more innocent decade than the '50s? Will there ever be more harmonic, lyrical songs than those written in post-World War II America? Will there ever be another cast album that really wants to "sell" you its simple music in such a sincere manner?

"Forever Plaid" was a sleeper of a show. Too bad. We do have this wonderful original cast album as a reminder that those huge Broadway musicals are often not as endearing as this precious, sweet tribute to days gone by.

I just saw a performance of Forever Plaid in Hermosa Beach on 10-30-99. I loved every minute of it! Stan Chandler was in this performance - what a beautiful voice! I want to see this one again! I am so glad that I was able to get a copy of this CD to listen to over and over...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music! A great show!, November 11, 1998

I saw it first on March 4th 1993 at the Galleria Theater in Denver and it immediately became one of my favorite musical productions. It's the story of 4 guys in 1964 on their way to pick up new plaid tuxedoes for their first real singing gig. On the way, they hit a bus load of Catholic girls going to see the Beatles sing on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Plaids all die but are given the chance to come back and do the show they weren't able to do while they were alive. In the style of The Four Lads, The Four Freshmen, The Four Aces, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts, They sing their way through this very entertaining and funny show. What a swell trip down memory lane.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plaidly wonderful!, January 30, 2000
This review is from: Forever Plaid: The Heavenly Musical Hit (1990 Off-Off-Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I just got done doing "Forever Plaid" as the lighting technician... it was the best show with the absolute best music. I looked everywhere for the album, because I knew that when the show closed (today) that I would have those songs in my head forever! I highly recommend this album if you crave those barber shop quartets. Have fun!

Hey, I'm still in high school but I'm finding my self listening to the "boss" tunes of these great guys, thanks Forever Plaid for restoring my faith in music and most of all, the kindness in people.

5.0 out of 5 stars You had to be there, October 19, 2005

I think there is a later version of this collection, based on a recent revival of the show in Las Vegas. Ignore it. This is the one to own. Probably the only people who can truly appreciate these performances are those old enough to remember the original "guy groups" imitated (or should I say reproduced) by this cast. That is, you must have been at least an adolescent in the early fifties, just before rock and roll replaced popular music. (Get it? R&R is popular, but not music.) However, it is quite possible that a few people from later generations, boomers and beyond, actually have some appreciation for melody, harmony, and sentimental lyrics. I hope so.

If you ever get a chance to see Forever Plaid on stage, GO! It is one of the best shows out there, and this CD will keep the memories coming back every time you hear it. Two thumbs up for the "Lads in Plaid"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Voices wonderful - some great standards, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Plaid: The Heavenly Musical Hit (1990 Off-Off-Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
This CD is excellent, especially if you've seen the show. But you don't have to see it to know that this group of guys sing WONDERFULLY, mixing some humor and wonderfully cheesy sentimentality into this album. The harmony is tight, the lead vocals excellent, and the entire experience of this album is great for ALL AGES.

This is my most favorite play of all time. I have seen the live show 5 times now and I can't get enough. My favorite songs are "Heart and Soul"- I got to go up on stage and play the top part with Sparky, "Perfidia", "Lady of Spain", and " Undicided" I'm only 14, and I deifnetly give this show and CD 5 stars!

A relative saw FP in the original off-Broadway production years ago, and purchased the tape after the show, making copies for us all. I've seen it twice in local productions and absolutely love it. The music of course is terrific as is the patter and interactions of cast and audience. The music is fun to sing along with, too.
