Ladies and Gentlemen - Jazz, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Forever Real (Audio CD)
One of very few 'modern' free jazz albums worth listening to. The Fonda Steven Group have really outdone themselves with this recording. I liked it a lot more than some of their previous releases. One highlight of this disc is 'Cotton'. I'm a huge fan of Matthew Shipp and I credit what he has done for jazz and bop - his collaboration with Antipop Consortium was great BUT I must say F/S Group blew Shipp out of the water with their collaboration with 'Is What?' frontman Napoleon Maddox. Hip Hop and MEAN jazz has never sounded better. Crisp sound all throughout the album gives you the live feel and is done quite appropriately. If you like jazz that soothes you to the core, yet, still manages to bite down to the bone pick up this album. It is a MUST have for serious fans of Jazz.
