Review

"The author has written a book with a fascinating premise, one that has been a topic of conversation for decades--How to stay young forever. In her version of the fountain of youth, Morgan Mandel has fashioned an intriguing story about an experimental pill that promises to transform the user's body back in time to an age the user specifies. In Forever Young: Blessing or Curse, the protagonist, a 55-year-old widow named Dorrie, chooses to recreate herself as she looked when she was 24 years old.

Despite the excellent results, Dorrie faces a host of problems brought on by the novel's antagonist, known as Angel Man. As you might surmise, Angel Man proves to be anything but an angel, and we learn there is a dark force at work that threatens even Angel Man himself.

Morgan Mandel does a nice job providing intrigue and suspense with just the right amount of foreshadowing, making the reader reluctant to put the story down before reaching the ending. It's a fast read, enjoyable and has a satisfying ending. For a self-published book, Forever Young is well done with good editing and a marvelous cover." - John M. Wills.

From the Author

Would you like to be young again, knowing what you know now?

Forever Young: Blessing or Curse was born through my wishful thinking. Now that I'm growing older, like many in the Baby Boomer generation, I wonder what it would be like to be young again, yet keep all my memories.

The heroine in this book gets to do just that. She spins back to an earlier age. That's when her life spins out of control.

You'll Find  Love - Intrigue - Seduction - Terror - Friendship and More in Forever Young: Blessing or Curse.

I truly enjoyed this story, reading a few chapters each night just before falling asleep, and looking forward to my "story time" each night! Mandel's main characters are more than three dimensional, sharing their inner thoughts as the story develops. Her settings are very easily seen through the characters' eyes, and the story line itself is just far enough fetched to hold the reader's interest through the various twists and turns of the plot.

A loving wife, too soon widowed ... feeling both the loss of her husband, too soon after the loss of her mother ... and the loss of her home setting ... seemingly rescued by the Angel Man who's smooth veneer hides a smoldering narcissism ... her friends back home worrying at a distance... the various relationships ring true in the woman's life.

The ending is not an ending, but a tease. What will happen to Dorrie? What will happen to her child? Will she fall in love with her former flame? Will she continue to remain young? Will the Angel Man return in her future? Or will the Monster come after her?

The description of the following anthology, addressing the stories of more participants in the "Forever Young" experiment, doesn't address Dorrie's future ... perhaps a third title will follow?

Well done; well written.

Middle-aged Dorrie Donato, newly widowed and overwhelmed with unpaid bills, accepts a position with the company where her husband was killed after her "forever job" comes to an unexpected end. Her new responsibilities require her to become the model--aka guinea pig--for a revolutionary fountain-of-youth pill that promises extensive longevity and whose developers remain silent about its dark side.

Author Morgan Mandel keeps the reader on the edge of her/his chair as she guides Dorrie through a corporate maze populated by less-than-honorable characters who hide a sinister plot that ultimately threatens her life. Complicated by her attraction to company front man Roman Remington, better known as Angel Man because of his incredible good looks, her life evolves from grieving widow to beautiful young woman admired by large crowds as she embarks on a whirlwind cross-country tour to promote the pill that's touted as the most promising anti-aging remedy ever invented.

Suddenly faced with a startling situation she never expected and a disturbing entry on her late husband's iPhone, she begins to question the wisdom of remaining in the job that once seemed to promise the financial security she so desperately needed. The story climaxes in a shocking turn of events that leaves the reader cheering her on and eagerly awaiting the next book in the Always Young series.

I enjoyed this book. Picked it up as a free book on Amazon, but would have gladly paid for it. The storyline kept me engaged and I was trying to figure out the ending all along. Well developed characters and a quickly moving storyline made it a pleasant read!

What if you could just pop a pill to shed years from your age? Morgan Mandel answers that question in this great mystery/thriller. After the mysterious death of her husband, Dorrie is hired by the company he worked for, the "Life is for Living" Institute and is recruited to be the spokesperson for their Forever Young pill. She agrees to fulfill her fantasy, swallows the pill and is transformed from a 55 year old matron to a 24 year old ingénue. With youth comes fame as she is launched into a series of TV commercials and personal appearances.

But nothing good comes free, and Dorrie soon learns of a dark conspiracy behind the youth pills. When she tries to reveal the truth the Institute turns on her and soon she is running from the police and running for her life from a strange, hideous looking creature.

The novel takes several surprising turns as Dorrie digs more deeply into the mysterious Institute and its magical product. How she manages to stay ahead of them, alone and unaided, is the core of this high-tension mystery. Forever Young: Blessing or Curse will keep you guessing to the end, and keep you on the edge of your chair up until then.
