Format: Paperback
It is incredible on so many levels. What a wonderful, inspiring tribute to one father but also to all POWs. It goes beyond merely describing a soldier's story of human suffering and endurance but lovingly relates how a father's survival strongly affects his family, church, and entire community for the rest of his life. This book is so very important to our country's history. We are going to order copies to put in our local high schools and libraries because it is a story everyone needs to read--especially our young people. The sacrifices our Greatest Generation contributed to freedom should remain in our hearts and minds so we don't ever forget what it's like to be forged by war.

This book is so very relevant to all children and grandchildren of those who fought in WWII. So many things that "trickle down" from our parents and grandparents into our own lives. This book is insightful and special, informative and honoring. I purchased copies for my dad and uncle who were also "forged by war". But also I will hand a copy to my daughters who have never known war, but should at least know this personal account and loving tribute. Beautifully done!

This book is a labor of 'love' from the author. While reading, I experienced tears of sadness for my own Uncle who went through the same and similar experiences in the Philippines as a POW. I also felt the joys and sorrows of the Davis family. The truth is revealed that the US government didn't want people to know. Powerful story and I recommend everyone read this story of "agape love" for generations to come. Keep their story alive. God bless Candie!

M. Reagan says:

This is an amazing book, a deeply moving tribute from a daughter to her father. Candie Blankman's paintings and drawings are beautiful and the photographs perfectly capture the era. The story takes us right down inside the courageous hearts of these brave Americans. I highly and whole-heartedly recommend this book - read it and don't let the memories of that time disappear!

A very personal story of a WWII POW survivor - by his daughter - who retraced his steps, and shared her journey as well as his. Plus, an inspiring story because this POW survivor went on to live a full, loving, forgiving life when he returned from the war. Well worth it for anyone interested in personal WWII stories - and inspirational stories of survival.
