Warning! This review contains minor spoilers for earlier books in the London Steampunk series.

Amazing! I loved almost everything about this book with its kick-ass characters, tension-filled romance, and continued development of a fascinating world. While I'm sure each of the London Steampunk books could be read as stand-alones, I highly recommend that readers at least check out My Lady Quicksilver (book 3) because the conclusion of that book has repercussions in this one.

Readers of the London Steampunk series met Garret and Perry in the last book as members of the Nighthawks, the police arm of the infected Echelon. They had obviously been friends for awhile and it was only a matter of time until romance entered the fray. Things really get moving on that front when Perry goes undercover at the opera and shows that she isn't just a tomboy. Now, Perry and Garret must deal with their changing relationship while searching for a potential serial killer amongst the upper class of British society.

I loved both Perry and Garret's characters. Perry is the center of this novel with her mysterious past that seems to be coming back to bite her. She is intelligent, kind, and very strong though she does have a problem with trusting others. Garret lived on the streets until being picked up by former Nighthawk leader, Sir Jasper Lynch, and he isn't afraid to use his charm to get what he wants. An unfortunate injury has forced the blood virus to start growing rapidly in his body and he is trying to adjust to this change while falling for his best friend.

The romance in Forged By Desire is full of chemistry. These two have been circling each other since the previous book and that made for some delicious scenes.

I love this series for its Steampunk elements, swoon worthy romances, and Bec McMaster’s beautiful writing style. I know that tears are forthcoming every time I pick-up a new installment because this author has a real knack for making me feel invested in the characters, and for tugging at my heartstrings. FORGED BY DESIRE was an enjoyable read, albeit not my favourite LONDON STEAMPUNK novel because of its rather uneventful first half; the story felt like it was divided into two parts instead of being one cohesive story.

Up to this point, readers haven’t gotten to spend much time with Garrett and Perry, so a large portion of this installment was dedicated to developing their characters, and on growing their relationship. Now, that’s pretty standard procedure in Paranormal Romance, but in this instance it didn’t really work for me; the unrequited love grew tiring after a while as did all of the secrets. I probably wouldn’t have butted heads with these elements nearly as much as I did had they been woven into the main story arc instead of having had to trudge through chapters and chapters of angst in order to get to the point. Once the main plot kicked in, I quickly remembered why I adore this series, but unfortunately it just took a heck of a long time to get there.

I liked the political intrigue that the Echelon brought to this tale with dukes, and even the prince consort himself involved, things were sure to get interesting. The murder mystery starts out small, but as things progressed it became apparent that there were larger schemes in play, and that things weren’t quite what they seemed. By the end of this book, I felt like this series’ main story arc was on the verge of being resolved.

I love this series, and it's hard to believe this is only book 4. I feel like I've read more about these characters than I have done in any other seriers. I am a bit put out with this book though, as I now realise that it is the second last one in the series and feel there are more stories the author could tell. If you have read the first three books in this series, than I already know you have been eagerly waiting for this to be released. If you have not read any of this series than I recommend starting with the first book in the series and read them all in sequence.

loved it, garrett & perry were grand, the storyline is about to become really high stakes and each of your books are very cleverly done but i still cannot choose between lynch & blade for the badest badass. can't wait to see barron's lass; a duchess perhaps. they do deserve each other. AND then i came to make the review & found a free novella!!!!!!!!!!! now that is how a writer should reward a purchase. can't stay i have a bonus tale to enjoy. thank you

Loved this story. Although Blade and Honor will remain my favorite couple, I was anxious to see the relationship between Perry and Garrett develop further. Perry is both strong and wistful at the same time, and after learning more about her we are very much alikeand love the same things. I am looking forward to meeting them again in the new stories to see how Garrett is faring, there is nothing as interesting as a reformed rake, and one with a cause!
