Book Description

December 28, 2002
Memories are the knots--the bonds--that give us the srength to carry on in times of stress, heal us in times of grief, and comfort us when we stumble and fall. Certain memories make us laugh, others bring a wistful smile to our face, and still others bring tears to our eyes as we relive them in our hearts. Memories are one of the most powerful forces in the human body.

A single thought can trigger a memory so strong, so poignant that its magic transports us back in time. In an instant, we are children again, sitting on our mother's lap, watching a sunset, laughing with our siblings, running barefoot across the lawn.

Forget Me Knots...from the Front Porch is an anthology filled to the brim with childhood memories. This volume will take you back to the front porch...of your home, your grandparents' home, or that of a friend. Journey back with us...into the memories of our hearts...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, January 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
Forget Me Knots from the Front Porch is a great reading book. The recollections are short, to the point, and tell stories that will remind you of your own front porch, or that of a loved one. The writing brings the characters to life: one can almost feel the sun on their back, the breeze on their face as they read. Because the majority of the stories are written by adults about their childhood, it is one of those books that can be enjoyed by anyone, young or old alike.

And because the stories are short, they are wonderful fillers -- just enought time to read one during break or lunch. I recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars blast from the past, January 26, 2003

This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
As one of the Knots authors, I was keen to read the book but worried about it being too sentimental. To my relief, it was full of well-written stories from a variety of places and backgrounds. I especially enjoyed the sly grog-selling grandfather with his "vegetable" cart. Helen Kay Polaski has done a good job filling a niche for heartwarming stories of childhood - almost an oral history collection.
