A Great Read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
Forget Me Knots from the Front Porch is a great reading book. The recollections are short, to the point, and tell stories that will remind you of your own front porch, or that of a loved one. The writing brings the characters to life: one can almost feel the sun on their back, the breeze on their face as they read. Because the majority of the stories are written by adults about their childhood, it is one of those books that can be enjoyed by anyone, young or old alike. And because the stories are short, they are wonderful fillers -- just enought time to read one during break or lunch. I recommend it to anyone.

blast from the past,

As one of the Knots authors, I was keen to read the book but worried about it being too sentimental. To my relief, it was full of well-written stories from a variety of places and backgrounds. I especially enjoyed the sly grog-selling grandfather with his "vegetable" cart. Helen Kay Polaski has done a good job filling a niche for heartwarming stories of childhood - almost an oral history collection.

This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
The memories in this book obviously changed the authors' lives and I am glad they decided to share them with us. Vivid pictures emerged as I read. Great care went into the writing and compiling.I also enjoyed the length of the individual contributions. It's possible to fit one or two complete stories into moments stolen from my busy schedule. I highly recommend this collection.

Heartwarming & Unforgettable!,
By Steven Manchester (Somerset, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
Forget Me Knots From The Front Porch is one of the most touching and memorable collections of stories I've ever read. Filled with different voices from around the globe, it's the type of book that becomes more of an experience than a simple read. I strongly suggest, however, that each story be absorbed and then savored before moving on. Trying to read "Forget Me Knots" in a single sitting would be like trying to live your entire life in a single day. Poignant and masterful, I recommend this book to anyone who dares to connect with the spirits of a boatload of talented writers!

The stories in this book will take you back to a time in your life that held great meaning. Memories are the stuff that in times of trouble, we look back on and either laugh or cry. Memories of family and friends are what sometimes get us through. These stories will make you remember a some of these times in your life and will cause you to think about the kinds of memories you are making now. Nice job of compiling these special memories Mrs. Polaski.

Reminiscing...,
By Heide AW Kaminski (Tecumseh, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forget Me Knots: From the Front Porch (Paperback)
Childhood memories... we all have them and we all like to reminisce at times.Helen K. Polaski collected 47 of stories from all around the globe (including US, Canada, England, Australia and the San Juan Islands) about people's fondest childhood memories. There was a little twist: a front porch had to be involved in one way or another. Watching the unfolding of exciting events from the front porch point of view; receiving sad news and using the porch swing as a mode of imaginary transportation to near and far places are some of the topics in these stories. They are sure to entertain the reader, bring happy and sad tears to their faces and call upon memories of their own. If you feel inspired to write a story of your own, Polaski just finished compiling stories for a sequel "Forget Me Knots Beyond The Garden Gate" with a major theme of, you guessed it: gardening. She plans on developing ideas for other themes, so be on the look-out! Whether you like to read, write or both, the "Forget Me Knots" series is sure to please your heart. Be sure to remember this book at gift giving time also!

Forget Me Knots...From the Front Porch,

Forget Me Knots...from the Front Porch is a beautiful collection of stories that will tug your heartstrings, tickle your funny bone, and have you longing for more after the last page is turned. Each author invites us to take a journey back to the simpler times of childhood when our hearts were filled with innocence and everyday held the promise of new discoveries. These heartwarming essays triggered many dormant memories of my own and I found myself recalling moments, people, and events that had a hand in shaping my life as I made my way from the security of childhood to the uncertainty of adulthood. I highly recommend this wonderful anthology by Helen Kay Polaski. It is definitely a new addition to my keeper shelf.
