Hilarious Companion to the Movie,
This review is from: Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Audio CD)
Like other Apatow productions, the music in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" doesn't take a backseat to the action--it's integrated into the film. If you loved the movie, you'll find most of the actors' musical performances here. Russell Brand's "We've Got to do Something" is both funny and catchy, while Jason Segal's "Dracula's Lament" is one of the oddest songs ever written. We're missing the two funniest songs in the film: Jason Segal's depressing "Muppets Theme" and his original untitled composition from the last 15 minutes of the movie ("You're pathetic, Peter...").Like any good Hawaiian soundtrack, we're also treated to Hawaiian versions of American pop hits: "More Than Words" is golden, while "Everybody Hurts" is actually more tolerable than the original. Grammy-award winning Hawaiian musician Daniel Ho contributes here under the moniker "The Coconutz". The additional tracks that round out this collection (material from Cake, Belle & Sebastian, the Bird and the Bee, and more) are pleasant but forgettable. Incidentally, if you're looking for funky "Superbad" composer Lyle Workman's original musical score, you're out of luck. None of his compositions are included here (unless he's performing under an alias...), nor were they released separately.

Not everything on this disc is something you'll want to play and play and play, but there are some gems. The particulars are the ones that are in the movie:"Inside of you" is just hilarious. It's as funny in its full length form as it is in its abbreviated edition in the film. "We've got to do something" almost sounds like a real Earth-day anthem. Jason's Dracula lament is just funny... people will look at you oddly when you play it, but they'll like it.

Loved this soundtrack. Wish there was more Dracula songs in it or at least extending the versions. Loved the Hawaiian version of Nothing Compares to You.

Fun and poignant at the same time, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is one of those films you will always get sucked into when you run across it on cable. It will then be a part of your DVR list. Then, predictably, you will have to have it, so you can see all the extras. Just remember: this is not a movie for children, as there is a brief shot of full-frontal male nudity and there are definite adult situations."Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is the story of a really bad breakup; a breakup you could have had, yourself. It's a breakup made worse by the fact that it comes out of nowhere to pummel our hero, Peter, into a sobbing little girl. He goes through a series of one-night stands to try to forget her, and at last decides to take a vacation to Hawaii to get his head together. Of course, she's there with her likeable but horny rock star boyfriend. Hijinks ensue. The tightly written script is accompanied by believable acting and a great soundtrack. This is one of those movies where you pick up nuances you missed in previous viewings, making it fun to watch over and over. I could wish only for more extras, and a better gag reel. I loved it, and you will too.

As a big fan of the movie, I purchased this soundtrack after my husband said how much he liked the Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares to you." The entire album rocks. They deliver a solid album full of eclectic songs and mixes. The Hawaiian songs are my favorite - "More than Words," "Nothing Compares to you," "These boots are made for Walking" and "Everybody Hurts" are all sung in Hawaiian. The emotion that resonates in these classic songs is beautiful and enchanting. The Infant Sorrow songs are actually really good and comical simultaniously. "Inside of You" is so wrong it's hilarious, but he can actually sing. It's like those 80's songs that took themselves way too seriously, but we really love them still today. Jason Segal's "Dracula Lemant" is awesome. Obviously straight out of the movie and it stands on it's own. "Baby" is sexy jazz, "F-Cking Boyfriend" was a pleasant surprice that sounded Cranberries-ish, and Cake delivers with "Love you Madly." All of the songs are good and the album lends itself to a daily soundtrack. Nice for parties or bbq's for background music or to listen to while working.

Being that this is the only way you can get 'Infant Sorrow' aka Russell Brand's two songs then it is well worth the cost but besides those two songs, it pretty much lacks.............
