5.0 out of 5 stars Hey, it's pretty good., April 14, 2006
This review is from: Forging Steel & Laying Stone (Audio CD)
I think this is a great metalcore/hardcore/what-have-you CD. I don't usually write Amazon reviews, but I thought it was a shame to have the rating for this messed up by ONE GUY who bought the wrong thing.

That said, this CD isn't mindblowing, but if you like this kind of music I think you'd be happy to have it. It's different enough, it sounds good, and the song titles and lyrics are pretty cool. A+!

5.0 out of 5 stars well if it's YOUR mistake, then why is it a bad CD?, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Forging Steel & Laying Stone (Audio CD)
I can see how someone looking for Funk Jazz can not necessarily like this CD. This CD is not even "death metal" as the reviewer described. Akimbo is a hardcore band fron Seattle. This CD is their first release on a national label. It's a mix of loud technical riffage, lots of distortion, hardcore, and influence from classic atmospheric/experimental bands like The Who and Sabbath. Sounds similar to Coalesce, Botch, Converge, etc. However, to me, this band has a unique sound that makes it stand out from other bands. This is their best CD to date, except for maybe Elephantine.

this genre of music has too many bands sniffing each others
butts to find out what they should do next, i do find
akimbo the cream of the crop of this type of music.
more musical than most with songs differing from each other,
an oddity if you ask me when i hear this stuff.
highly recommended to people that like chaos with their
music, mastodon fans will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best acid jazz funk album i've ever heard, May 22, 2007

I have never written an amazon review before but this cd deserves some serious praise. Rockness Monster is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. These guys are tough as nails, if you listen to acid jazz funk this cd will make you feel like you got punched in the head by a f*****g ice giant. Mastodon fans, check...but these guys remind me more of Unsane than anyone else...which is a good thing. 5 stars for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars To the one star reviewer..., February 5, 2007
This review is from: Forging Steel & Laying Stone (Audio CD)
What kind of moron looks at the cover to "Forging Steel and Laying Stone" and thinks acid funk jazz? Furthermore, do you know of any acid funk jazz band with song titles like "Sci Fi Monster Violence" and "Ground Control to Major Bummer"?

Akimbo's music, plainly, is head-bangingly awesome. Not to mention their live shows are face-meltingly energetic.
