3.0 out of 5 stars Our Daily Bread
Most romance novels end in "happily ever after." "Boy gets girl, they get married, the end." This novel takes one inside the marriage, and gives a realistic perspective of married life. I gave it 3 stars because of several storylines that didn't really add meaning to novel, and I feel they disturbed the flow of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgive Us This Day, May 11, 2006

This story starts by introducing Alese, the protagonist who's life is turned upside down all in the span of one day. It starts on New Years Day when she learns that her ailing mother has suffered another heart attack and her presence is needed in Kansas. After receiving the devastating news, she gets an anonymous tip that her husband of fifteen years is having an affair with one of his employees; Lisa Bradford.

Through various turns of events, Alese's suspicions of his infidelity are confirmed and literally, all hell breaks loose. To compound the situation, Alese is not only dealing with her mother's health issues, but she is also faced with the possibility of losing custody of their foster child to an estranged relative. As with all traumatic occurrences in ones life Alese has to decide if she is strong enough to forgive and forget.

FORGIVE US THIS DAY is the debut novel of newcomer Barbara Joe-Williams. This is a realistic romance novel about faith, hope, real love and forgiveness. The author covered many areas on family, marriage and commitment. She did a good job depicting the trails and tribulations many couples are faced when dealing with infidelity. She shows the reader that even the most perfect marriages have problems but if you believe in God and let him lead the way, then all things will prevail. This was a great read and a very inspirational book about love, family, and the power of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars faith, hope and real love, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
romantic at heart, Barbara Joe-Williams propels me into the lives of a woman on the brink of going downhill.

The author made me feel and know that the power of prayer is so real and that there may be bad times in a relationship but with faith, hope and real love, all things can be conquered.

Enjoyable reading. Thank you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgive Us This Day, April 14, 2006
This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this "novel about faith, hope and real love" as stated by new author Barbara Joe Williams. Williams offers an honest voice concerning the trials many couples face when dealing with infidelity, especially those in a long term marriage.

The emotional toll is costly and you can feel the heartwrenching anguish and pain felt by Alese when she finds out about Michael's indiscretion. However, witnessing Michael's sincere regret and struggles with the reality of what he had done helps the reader to be more empathetic, presenting both sides in an unflinchingly raw yet sensitive manner.

With developed, three-dimensional characters, and a thought provoking plot, this debut novel is both refreshingly open and inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgive Us This Day, December 3, 2005
This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
This is a very good book from beginning to end. Mrs. Barbara Joe-Williams did a good job developing the characters and the issues they faced. The chararcters appear to be real people dealing with real problems. Just as it is in life, just because a person is dealing with one personal crisis does not mean the next crisis will wait until the crisis is over before it surfaces. The two main characters have what it takes to make it: faith and love. Way to go Mrs. Barbara Joe-Williams, keep writing and we will keep reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars The power of love, November 9, 2005

Imagine the possibility of losing everything you hold dear in one day, and you may begin to understand how Alese Dean-Wayne felt on New Year's Day. She starts the day with a phone call from her sister stating their mother had suffered yet another heart attack and she is needed in Kansas. As she begins to prepare for her trip, the phone rings again. This time it is the attorney she and her husband, Michael, hired to oversee the adoption of a child they both desperately want. It seems one of the child's relatives has stepped forward, causing a delay in the process. If that is not enough, a note is delivered to her declaring that her husband of fifteen years is involved in an illicit affair at the office. As troubling as all of this seems, Alese puts her faith and trust in God to see her through what she has to face.

In FORGIVE US THIS DAY, newcomer Barbara Joe-Williams has crafted a moving, sentimental story about the power of love and forgiveness. The author covered many areas where biblical principles were applied, but she focused largely on the area of the marriage commitment. I applaud this author on her depiction of an African-American family in a positive light with imperfections that were not demoralizing or degrading. She used each of those flaws in the characters to teach enlightening and time-honored lessons on faith, hope and love. This book could easily be required reading for any married couple. It shows that even in a perfect marriage there are problems, but if you and your mate have a strong Godly bond, you can overcome any adversity. I look forward to more from this talented author in the future.

Great book, a lot of twists and turns. Excellent development of characters, looking forward to book # 2 and more. It is nice to read about professional African-American married couples who are faith-based, and utilize this faith when adversity strikes. The book was easy reading and captivating, I highly recommend it to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent depiction of the trials and triumph of true love, April 1, 2005

This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
I read Forgive Us This Day from cover to cover in 2 sittings. It was an edgy portrayal of the trials and triupmphs of true love. It was a positive portrait of an imperfect family's struggle to forgive and build in spite of the pain. Forgive Us This Day was refreshing to read as it depicted strong positive African-American men who strived for maintaining the integrity of the family unit and edification of the woman in a culture that demonizes our finest and degrades their partners in pop culture and media. Thank you. I look forward to your next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgive us this day--beautifully written book, March 20, 2005
By
This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
This was a moving novel about the power of love and faith that kept a family together despite their time of difficulties. The one time infidelity of one spouse in a moment of weakness could have destroyed the family. However, their family bond and trust in God kept them together. This is an excellent book because it has a realistic theme about problems facing today's couples and is a beautiful example of how strong a bond can be in a family despite all of the problems they are facing. I would highly recommend this book to any reader.

This review is from: Forgive Us This Day (Paperback)
This is a good read for any man or woman who wants to renew their faith in relationships. This novel has restored my faith in the fact that there are some good companions out there. It can be viewed realistically from a secular or a Christian point of view. If you are looking for a well-rounded love story, this is the one.
