Book Description

December 19, 2010
Most of us don't get what we want in our lives because we sabotage ourselves: We procrastinate. We resist. We don't follow through. We don't do the things that we know are in our best interests. The end result is a life of unfulfillment and disappointment. It doesn't have to be that way.

When we eliminate the guilt, shame, and self-loathing deeply-embedded in our unconscious mind which generate our self-destructive, self-defeating behaviors, our world changes for the better: We start attracting people and circumstances that cooperate with our goals and propel us towards the manifestation of all our hopes and dreams.

The way to eliminate our guilt, shame, and self-loathing is to esteem ourselves and forgive ourselves. The way to esteem ourselves and forgive ourselves is to esteem and forgive others. Forgive To Win!'s Forgiveness Diet is a structured program that teaches us how to do this. It's not complicated. And it works!

By consistently practicing a daily regimen of thoughts, actions and exercises devoted to accepting, forgiving and being of service to others, our self-esteem increases, our self-sabotaging behaviors decrease, and we experience greater opportunities and more positive outcomes in all realms of our lives.

With the Forgiveness Diet you can:
  • Be successful in your career.
  • Generate wealth & prosperity.
  • Be successful in your relationships.
  • Generate love & harmony.
  • Increase self-confidence.
  • Eliminate fear & worry.
  • Be happy & healthy.
  • Lose weight & get in shape.
  • Live long & live well.

From the Author

I wrote Forgive To Win! because during my many years helping people as a board-certified psychiatrist, I realized that the cause of most people's unhappiness, depression, anxiety, anger, and frustration with their health, their relationships, their career and their finances is self-sabotage!

Most people get in their own way. They don't do things they know they need to do and when they do take action they make poor choices that impact negatively on their lives and keep them from attracting and manifesting all that they desire and aspire to accomplish.

When I started teaching my patients the secret to ending their self-sabotaging behaviors (spiritual techniques and cognitive tools designed to increase self-esteem and eliminate guilt, shame and self-loathing deeply embedded in the unconscious mind), their emotional turmoil subsided and their lives got better!

I realized that the Forgiveness Diet, my structured 90-day program for ending self-sabotage, was something that could benefit a great many people, particularly those who repeatedly buy self-help books and don't get the results that they desire because they sabotage their efforts at applying the principles the self-help books provide to them.

The Power to Transform July 11, 2011
Format:Paperback
Forgive to Win! by Walter E. Jacobson is a book of self-help and self-discovery reminiscent of best-selling books like The Secret and The Power of Now. While those books are excellent, Forgive to Win! takes self-help to a whole new level by showing individuals just how to apply its principles into their daily lives--for amazing results. Jacobson proposes the Forgiveness Diet, a ninety day regimen that focuses on forgiveness through one's, "thoughts, actions, and exercises designed to establish new thought-emotion behavior habits of esteeming, accepting, forgiving and being of service to others."

Jacobson theorizes that there is something in the subconscious that blocks individuals from achieving their goals. The only way to achieve success, according to this remarkable author, is through inner peace and contentment. An interesting point that Jacobson makes is that we are naturally prone to resistance. He states, "We resist. We don't follow direction. We don't follow through. We allow ourselves to be distracted and derailed."

Whether it's a painful event from our past or an individual that has caused us pain, we become conditioned to subconsciously believe that we cannot overcome. We become defeatists. Human tendency is to say things such as, "There's no point in trying." "It will never work." In other words, humans "self-loathe," and are quite adept at self-destructive behavior, and it directly affects relationships, job opportunities, and ultimately the ability achieve success.

The solution: the 90-day Forgiveness Diet--a structured program that will de-condition and build positive habits through forgiveness and the ability to let go. The process from negativity to a positive mindset is a rigorous reparation process. The end result is to ensure that "our subconscious mind gets the message that we are worthy of reward instead of punishment."

The Forgiveness Diet regimen includes activities such as "Forgiveness Mantras," "Forgiveness Inventory," "Gratitude List," "Forgiveness Affirmations," "Dream Programming," and "Rating Scales." The most important thing that Jacobson emphasizes is that one's thoughts, behaviors, and emotions will not change overnight. In fact, there will be good days and bad days, but the point is to keep applying the principles of the Forgiveness Diet in order to realize a positive end result.

For those seeking to change their lifestyles for the better, to reach goals, and to see success on every level, Forgive to Win! has the power to transform and is a must-read!

Buddha said, "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned." Counseling a client with this wise saying, she retorted, "Forgiveness is not a concept in my religion." Well, we are all holding on to anger of one sort or another, against one parent or another, an ex-lover, ex-husband, ex-employer, etc., and Forgive to Win finally explains fully and completely why it's necessary and in our own best interests to let it go, whatever your beliefs.

There are many wonderful books on Forgiveness already on my bookshelf, but I welcomed this one because it lays out a structured daily program, it's not just a philosophical treatise. The steps suggested help train ourselves to let go of self-sabotaging behavior and learn to love ourselves - by loving and forgiving others, no matter what they've done. Once our self-esteem is raised to the heights possible through self-love, there's nothing you can't achieve.

Forgiveness may seem like an easy task, but it's not. And Dr. Jacobson guides the reader in how to forgive. His "Forgiveness Diet" is a unique set of recommendations to help us establish and maintain the 90-day commitment to acts of kindness and forgiveness that could literally change one's life. He also includes Forgiveness Affirmations and Visualizations that I have already used to great benefit.

Looking at it from the vantage point of health, anger throws us off-balance and creates tension that can lead to chronic pain and disease. Forgiveness opens the floodgates of our body's own healing energy, and keeps us grounded, alert, empowered and able to recognize opportunities for success.

The last chapter of the book is entitled, "Getting Everything You Want!" If you don't already have it, it's time to get this book.
Namaste!

I think the content of this book is 5 stars. However it is in dire need of some simplification and editing. Let's focus on the most important chapter, Chapter 5.

The analogy is laid out; forgiveness like a diet plan. And 9 or so steps are recommended on a daily basis. Waaaay to many steps for your average bear. I would consolidate the steps and put them into a more user friendly infographic. Some of the steps are too striated. Combine, condense, format and use. My take on this and I will be setting this up in my google calendar reminders:

1. Be of service (look for opportunities to help, to give, to smile)
2. Transform judging, sarcasm, meanness into finding the good, the better, the great
3. Do the right thing
4. Create some mantras - Anger Hurts, Forgiveness Heals was a pretty good one I thought.
5. Be thankful
6. Nightly review (did you serve, did you see the good, did you behave)

Rinse and repeat.

The content is excellent, the steps are too many. Definitely a worthy book to read, especially if you have any anger issues or you just want to be better. I look forward to a second edition and future books from this author.
