Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Dear Back-Cover Reader,

I have a confession to make. I've been keeping quiet about something that ought to be shouted from the housetops. It's the most marvelous bit of information in the world, and I'm feeling terribly guilty for withholding it from you.

Others who know the secret feel equally guilty for remaining silent. In all likelihood, that's why you've been given this book. The only reason the person who gave it to you waited this long is because he or she knows there's a risk involved --- you might think he's out of his mind. Bit that's person's love for you has grown stronger than his fear, and so now you have his gift in your hands.

Don't wait another minute. Start reading. You'll find answers to questions you've wondered about all your life. The message in this little book has already dramatically changed the lives of millions of people for the better. Yours can be the next.

Sincerely,
David Servant

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Evangelism Tool June 10, 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is great to give family and friends to share the gospel. It is written in a loving and simple way, yet does not at all compromise the gospel message. This is the REAL gospel message preached, both the grace and mercy of God in offering us salvation through Jesus Christ, but also the call to obedience and holiness, which are essential for salvation. This is not the "once saved, always saved" idea of praying a prayer and thinking that one is eternally secure. The truth of God's word is expressed by using the entire Bible, not just a few passages. It is a wonderful read for professing Christians as well, to help them determine whether they are indeed "in the faith". It is better to find out now that one is deceived in one's beliefs rather than when standing before the Lord God Almighty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgive Me for Waiting So Long to Tell You This August 29, 2013
Format:Paperback
David Servant has previously served for 24 years as a pastor and traveling teacher, ministering in scores of the world's poorest countries with his wife Becky. Together, they are now the founders of Heaven's Family a missions group that continues to equip Christian leaders and serve the poor--the "least of these"--in the world's poorest nations.

David Servant is the author of eight books, including Forever Rich, and the The Disciple-Making Minister, a 500-page equipping manual that has been translated into more than 20 languages and is distributed to tens of thousands of pastors.

Back in 1991 David published a small 135 page book entitled To My Friends, Neighbors, and Relatives: Forgive Me for Waiting So Long to Tell You This.

David's book is easy to follow and could be read in a single sitting. Quite simply it is David's treatise to his non-Christian friends, it is evangelism and gospel at its very core, but in a friendly - familiar approach that doesn't bury people with weighted theology.

Each chapter is only 5 or 6 pages long and felt very reminiscent of similar books like "How Good is Good Enough" by Andy Stanley and "More Than A Carpenter" by Josh McDowell. All in all this is a great little evangelism tool to give away or loan to your non-Christian friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for both 'believers' and those not yet! August 8, 2013
By Thomas
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book prior to it being available on Amazon in digital format. After reading the message, I started purchasing it in bulk quantities to distribute to friends, acquaintances and relatives who preferred not to carry on a conversation in public or without adequate time to carefully consider the gospel message. The book (paperback) permits these folks to read the gospel message in their private surroundings. The message itself is presented in simplicity;understandable to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and Easy to Read in One Sitting August 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book and read it in one sitting. It is a compassionate and tender presentation of the Gospel message. It is 127 pages and the idea is similar to a tract, you share it with someone to introduce them to Christ. However, it is clearly much more detailed and informative than any tract could ever be. The author starts off discussing God's creation and some amazing aspects of creation (number of galaxies, number of cells, the information contained in DNA and other apologetic material). He covers some archaeology and discusses the meaning behind certain words found in Greek (the language of the New Testament). He discusses some comparative religion and shares a number of scriptures to clarify the message of Christ. All in all it is a short but comprehensive introduction to the most important message in all of history, that God has revealed "this mystery, Christ IN you" (Col 1:27). Next I recommend ANYTHING by Norman Grubb as you journey in your pursuit of God. For sure a pleasant read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convicting read! August 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a convicting read for both non-believers and believers in every stage of their walk with the Lord. David lays out the Gospel very matter-of-factly highlighting scripture often, pointing you to the truth. But he does it without "shoving it down your throat", addressing many arguments or points of conflict. Read it! And then pass it along to your family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book That Will Challenge You Think For Yourself - if October 7, 2013
By Jill R
Format:Paperback
This is a book that will challenge you stop and think for yourself - IF you read it for yourself!

David begins this book by telling a very imaginative story of how his Seiko watch came together with all its intricate parts in perfect working order, all by chance.

"It just happened".

Really?

Of course not.

Then he goes on the say:
"If I sincerely believed my watch just happened you would be forced to question my intelligence".

Everyone knows that a watch is created and manufactured by someone, even though we may not have seen the process actually happen.

The creation around us is far far more intricate and complicated than a digital watch. Anyone who is honest with himself will have to admit there has to be a Creator.

Having proved the existence of God the Creator, with this and other examples, David goes on to discuss selfishness as the key characteristic of man's fallen nature.

If you really stop and think about it, it is easy to see that selfishness indeed is the root of all sin. Therefore, as David strongly suggests, once one becomes a real christian (having experienced an encounter with Christ through faith which will produce a transformed life) one of the obvious fruits of this transformation will be unselfishness.

I note that some have been confused thinking that David is adding unselfishness as something we MUST exercise in our lives in order to be saved - not so. He is stating that an obvious fruit of having REALLY given your life to Christ, and being born again, will be selflessness. It is a mark of a real Christian.

He also makes it clear that this does not mean you will be perfect in this yet.

More About the Author

When David Servant read the results of his high-school vocational aptitude test, he laughed. The results told him that he was best suited for a career in ministry or in entertainment. At the time, David's future goal was to live in a log cabin in the wilderness and live off the land for the rest of his life.

The Lord, however, had different plans for David Servant. God didn't intend for him to run away from the world, but rather to play a part in changing the world--by building God's kingdom. David received his call to ministry during his (reluctant) freshman year at Penn State, and one year later was enrolled in Bible School.

Upon graduation, David and his new bride, Becky, pioneered their first church in David's hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. That was more than thirty years ago.

Over the years, David and Becky Servant pioneered and pastored three churches, all three of which were very missions-oriented. David often traveled internationally to teach in pastors' conferences, during which time he developed numerous ministry friends in scores of developing nations.

When David was serving at his third pastorate, Jesus' words in Matthew 25--the foretelling of the future judgment of the sheep and the goats--caught his heart, and that birthed a transformation in his ministry. Heaven's Family was the result, launched in 2002.

David Servant is the author of eight books, including Forever Rich, and the The Disciple-Making Minister, a 500-page equipping manual that has been translated into more than 20 languages and is being distributed to tens of thousands of pastors.

David and Becky have been married for 32 years. They have three grown children and one grandchild.
