3.0 out of 5 stars Still waiting for this series to be as good as Redemption series
Maybe it will be as good once Dayne gets his long lost family, the Baxters, into his life.

What I feel are positives in the story line:

Dayne's longing to be part of a family that he never had and his search for God. On the surface, he's got it all, the fame, good looks, any woman he wants, but those things are missing. He's coming to terms...

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful Christian inspirational novel, September 23, 2005
This review is from: Forgiven (Firstborn Series-Baxter 2, Book 2) (Paperback)
Popular and famous Hollywood action star Dayne Matthews has it all but deep down he feels empty inside. Katy Hart who refused a part in a movie with him after she was attacked by a stalker made him feel alive but she and Dayne live in two different worlds and a true Christian would never becomes involved with a man like him. Dayne is looking forward to seeing Katy in Bloomington where part of the film will be shot.

Dayne knows that his biological family the Baxters live there but he won't reveal himself to them because he doesn't want to bring the ugliness of his world home to them. Katy who is the director of the Christian Kids' Theater (C KT), is dealing with the aftermath of two young children in the CKT having lost their lives to a drunken driver. The older teens want revenge but Katy tries to teach them that it is not their place to pass judgment. She also has to deal with the deep feelings she has for Dayne, knowing that nothing could ever come of them while he tries to find meaning in his life. Thanks to her, he is on the road to finding himself.

This beautiful Christian inspirational novel has life lessons that reach out beyond religion. Dayne might have no choice in his decision not to introduce himself to the Baxters because his father has decided to search for him. The love the two protagonists feel for one another is beautiful although both believe for different reasons that they can't be together. Katy's nurturing abilities to every one she knows combined with her faith makes her a strong person who helps others through the tragedy. Karen Kingsbury has written a wonderful novel that makes readers feel hope.

I'm a busy person who doesn't have time to read much, but as soon as I got this book in the mail I had it all read in two days! I just put off everything else because I simply could not put the book down. I can't believe I have to wait until next summer to get the next book.

This book is wonderful. Everything I have read of Karen Kingsbury has been excellent, but this one exceeded all of them. I laughed and cried. I wish I did not have to wait until May for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Heart-Grabbing Book from Kingsbury, February 18, 2006
This review is from: Forgiven (Firstborn Series-Baxter 2, Book 2) (Paperback)
Having read all of Karen's books with great joy, I was very excited to get a copy of, "Forgiven." The book shows that even with lots of glamour and money, life without the love of God is meaningless. With the great role model that Katy is, the rich Hollywood actor begins to realize why he has felt empty all along. Makes us Christians realize that we should be role models- you never know who's watching- or who's attracted to us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful, February 16, 2006
This review is from: Forgiven (Firstborn Series-Baxter 2, Book 2) (Paperback)
My goodness, these books rock! Karen has an eternal gift of drawing us into her fictious world and challenging our faith through our characters and plotlines. I love to read up the parts of the Bible she mentions or alludes to in her novels, connecting the story to the truth. Simply awesome Karen!

Well written, enjoyable, sad, good solution's to some difficult situations. I think this would be a good book for the youth of today instead of the hateful, dark side, books they are reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspirational story of mercy and hope, September 8, 2006
By
This review is from: Forgiven (Firstborn Series-Baxter 2, Book 2) (Paperback)
I have read all the books to date in the Baxter series
and I just wanted to say regarding other readers who were less drawn-in to the story, that following the 'Baxter family' from the beginning is where it's at in this series. They become like an extended family you wish you could befriend and interact with. Even though at times the story can seem too surreal to be realistic - then Karen throws a curve and adds dimension as another 'real' tragedy occurs. The way it plays out is nothing short of moving and inspirational. I have personally faced the loss of a dear loved one and I know the power of grief. It is felt in these pages and in the message of learning to take everything to God for healing, hope and peace.
God is good and He does work in our lives through sadness to bond us closer to Him and each other. Prayer works!
