5.0 out of 5 stars Forgiveness is neither easy nor quick, but necessary, April 7, 2011

This has got to be one of most important books I have read in a long, long time. From the title, the potential reader might assume that it is only concerned with large-scale group reconciliation and forgiveness, and there certainly is that in this book, but it also has a great deal to say about individual-to-individual relationships. In fact, what is true about forgiveness and reconciliation in small relationships is largely applicable to group, ethnic, etc. relationships and vice versa. Forgiveness and reconciliation are not "easy fixes" that can be willed into existence. Author after author in this book of 21 contributors, though coming from many different perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences, caution that the hurts must be addressed, mourned and dealt with, otherwise "cheap grace" will not really bring an end to the suffering associated with wounded relationships large and small. There probably is no mature adult who would not benefit from reading this book.
