Book Description

January 1, 2010
Dr. Friedman believes that at the root of almost all emotional problems is unforgiveness (grievances, judgments and attack thoughts)-- towards others, ourselves, our circumstances, God, anyone or everyone. The Forgiveness Solution is an easy to learn, practical and integrative process whereby we learn to shift and release our perceptions, attitudes, images, energy and distressing feelings (anger, guilt, hurt, shame, anxiety, panic, trauma etc) and simultaneously re-empower ourselves by choosing and deciding to forgive. He teaches us many powerful exercises, tools and techniques that show us exactly how to forgive rather than just talking about forgiveness. In The Forgiveness Solution Dr. Friedman introduces us to the new, highly effective healing techniques of Transformational Forgiveness and Energetic Forgiveness. When we forgive we find within ourself the capacity to feel an authentic sense of peace and contentment when thinking about the person or situation we previously perceived as hurting or harming us while giving up the desire for retribution, punishment, or harm. This almost always leads to much greater happiness and joy. The next step in the Forgiveness Solution process is learning to develop positive, compassionate and often loving feelings toward the people and circumstances (including ourselves) that we previously perceived as hurtful. Finally, we learn to interpret -- and then realize -- that these upsetting experiences are opportunities for profound personal and spiritual healing and growth.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This hands-on workbook for those seeking emotional well-being, is not for the faint of effort. Friedman, who says the inability to forgive underlies all emotional ills, peppers his years of psychotherapeutic research with affirmations, exercises both mental and physical, and writing assignments designed to improve one's ability to forgive. The trouble with Friedman's book is not his scholarship but finding the inordinate amount of time required to complete all the exercises aimed at eliciting insight. (Jan.)

Not only does he present us with a compendium of ways to perceive, assess, and take action to heal ourselves, but he even provides the questions and answers we might ask him to have the confidence to apply these methods. This is a book we could all use." --Barry G. Ginsberg, PhD, Director of The Center of Relationship Enhancement and author of Relationship Enhancement Family Therapy and 50 Wonderful Ways to Be a Single-Parent Family

Philip H. Friedman, equipped by years of practical psychotherapy experience, offers you a practical, powerful, and personal book that will help you forgive. Doable exercises are engaging, useful, and therapy-tested. While many psychologists integrate scientific findings into their practice, I know of no therapist who does as often as Friedman. His integration of research and practice has resulted in a book that will help you, teach you, and heal you. It is the best blend of science and clinical practice." --Everett L. Worthington, Jr., Ph.D., Professor of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University and author of Forgiving and Reconciling: Bridges to Wholeness and Hope

5.0 out of 5 stars A way to let go of resentments and hurts from every angle, December 14, 2009

This review is from: The Forgiveness Solution: The Whole-Body Rx for Finding True Happiness, Abundant Love, and Inner Peace (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. It's easy to read, has great stories and examples. But the best parts for me are all the useful tools to help with the process of forgiveness which people often struggle with. There's a view or way to see it for everyone. We're not all alike and a 'one size fits all' doesn't really work for something as complicated and deep as forgiveness. So the book has a lot of different exercises to help with the process. And if one doesn't work for you, then there are others to try, plus in working through the book, you'll find parts that really work well and they will build on each other as you go along. You'll feel a sense of accomplishment at every chapter. Also, the book has ways for you to track your progress through questionnaires and journaling.

It's so obvious in reading the book that the author really cares and wants to help. His skill, understanding and expertise is only topped by his compassion and caring. This is a must buy book for anyone struggling with hurts and resentments.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Forgiveness Solution: The Whole-Body Rx for Finding True Happiness, Abundant Love, and Inner Peace, February 18, 2010
This review is from: The Forgiveness Solution: The Whole-Body Rx for Finding True Happiness, Abundant Love, and Inner Peace (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)

Forgiveness appears to be the solution for finding true happiness, love, and inner peace. In contrast, absence of condonation may produce sadness, hate, and inner turmoil. The author provides eighteen rich chapters that are interwoven with spirituality and non-religious metaphysics. The worksheets and exercises are useful, but most importantly is the enlightened theories or concepts on the topic.

The bottom line is forgiveness is freeing--a psychosynthesis to thinking about others and situations that produce harmony for all. Amnesty allows one to refrain from cancer-causing resentments, stress, and ingredients of anger or hate. This book is not only recommended for those seeking palliation, but it's a good guide for engaging in any relationship.

I've long held that the ability to give and receive forgiveness is one of the keys to finding peace in our lives and the answer to what keeps us from being able to move on. Friedman's book provides amazing groundwork that, I believe can change ANYONE's life for the better. The book helps illuminate how large a factor being able to forgive others - and ourselves - plays in every single life, no matter how differently one might feel about religion, spirituality, politics or anything else we find separates us from others.

A beautiful, powerful and inspiring book.
