Book Description

February 10, 1997
Now with a twenty-page study guide. Many people have been helped by this valuable book, first published five years ago, which addresses those of us who desperately want to change but can’t stop behaving in ways that hurt us and those we love. The authors assure us that we can change these hurtful patterns. Drs. Stoop and Masteller believe you can move beyond failure to forgiveness, cancelling the indebtedness of those who have hurt you. But before you can begin the process of forgiveness, you need to understand the roots of your pain, through exploring the family patterns that perpetuate dysfunction. When you understand your family of origin, you will be able to take the essential step of forgiveness.

4.0 out of 5 stars good things to think about., December 16, 2008
This review is from: Forgiving Our Parents, Forgiving Ourselves: Healing Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families (Paperback)
This book has a lot of easy simple ways to get yourself thinking about foregiveness and how important it is. I'm not much for God(with a capital G) or the twelve step stuff but there is still plenty of good in this book. I haven't done the exercises yet but in reading over them I expect that they will also be helpful. I do like that they explain many Biblical references in a way that helps you see the intended lesson rather than the perverted message that is pushed by modern Christianity. It's a quick and easy read, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Healing power of forgiveness, September 28, 2011
By
Forgiveness is central in the Christian life and walk, yet it is one of the most complex things for us to grasp and come to terms with. Often we believe that we have readily confronted our past and pain and that we have forgiven ourselves and others only to find that somehow we are still carrying it around. In fact many of us live in a sort of self-induced denial, trying to deal with life the best we can yet not fully understanding why we are prone to bad decisions or thought processes.

This book deals with just that. It helps the reader to look objectively at their life and line it up with the scriptures to reveal the areas of work needed. It is difficult at times as the reader must dig up things they would rather not deal with and confront these issues head on in light of the scriptures. However the end result is one of true healing as the power of forgiveness is fully revealed and lived.

An excellent read for all people.

Thank you Gospel Light for this review copy.
