Clyde McPhatter must be acknowledged as having one of the most compelling voices in the history of R&B. During the time McPhatter was a member of the immortal vocal quintet the Drifters, the group featured his heavenly falsetto on hit singles like "Money Honey" and "Such a Night." After going solo in 1954, McPhatter continued his reign on the top of the charts with such classics as "A Lover's Question," "Without Love," and "Treasure of Love." This comprehensive two-CD set features McPhatter's finest moments with the Drifters as well as his phenomenal vocal work as a solo artist. The collection includes rare and unreleased performances recorded during The Alan Freed Radio Show in 1956 and a decade later at the Apollo Theater. Essential. --Mitch Myers

CLyde McPhatter's The Forgotten Angel contains the very best music. There is no voice that compares to his passionate feelings for his songs. He is my favorite male vocalist. He makes me feel his passion and I never tire of l istening to him sing. His greatest are Warm Your Heart, The Way I Feel, Such a Night. Lucille, No Love Like Her Love and Money Honey. I find it incredible the way he takes a song like Money Honey and makes it oh so sexual. It chills me. His love songs are very intimate, he makes me feel as though he's singing to me. It is impossible to be more intimate with a song than he.

The collection is really good. It is mind blowing that he gets as little acclaim as he does today. Thbe title of the collection is tragically accurate. An amazingly honeyed voice that was capable of doing a lot of stuff. I really like the fact that he will stretch out notes and there will be no rise or drop on the note, it will just end. A technique that I am not terribly familiar with. He really had a good handle on the heartbreak songs. I was impressed with the fact that this collection covers a lot of stuff and the vast majority of it is really good.

a wonderful retrospective of clyde from the drifters' days to his solo efforts. nobody has ever had as pure a voice as clyde. it is too bad he came to such a sad end.
