For the Couch Surfer,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Forgotten Coast (DVD)
This is right up there with Endless Summer. My husband loves it and has viewed it several times. If you have a couch surfer at home who talks about the good old days of surfing, treat him to this video.

Worth Watching,
By Deacon Mao (NY, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Forgotten Coast (DVD)
I thought this was a cool documentary. It's a good movie about a journey of surfers who push the limits just to find some unsurfed waves. The quality of surfing is good, but it's the trip that's amazing.

Not Really a Surf Movie as much as a Travel Journal.. Still Amazing,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Forgotten Coast (DVD)
This movie is not as much about the surf as the culture.. and the journey.. these guys are likely surfing waves never surfed in modern times, but "getting to them" is what interested me. The fighting with boat pilot, the cooking of critically endangered animals (not the surfers, but the locals), the infections gotten along the way.. really show what it takes to get to uninhabited coasts. It's great to watch the "price" these surfers pay along their journey. the interview with the blonde surfer within the DVD "extras" is creepy.. he's a good guy, but the camera person, for whatever reason, focuses up close, in on the guy's nostrils.. as he's talking.. very weird.. the movie is a bit strange in that the surfing is less interesting than the journey the guys take to get there. It's still a great movie. For those touting Step into Liquid, etc as better.. Step into Liquid is great also, but that movie contains surfing in Wisconsin, a waste of time, along with guys in Vietnam surfing sand dunes.. because there were no waves. Laird and his crew are only in Step into Liquid for about 20 minutes.. the rest of that movie is not really that interesting, to me. It's a surf movie for the general public.. With Forgotten Coast.. at least you should be familiar with the world of surfing before you rent/buy it.. that's assumed. People not into surfing movies will not like Forgotten Coast.. but they will like Step into Liquid (I like both).
