More About the Author

Zoe Forward is a hopeless romantic who can't decide between paranormal and contemporary romance. So, she writes both. In addition to being a mom to one rambunctious kindergartener and wife to a conservation ecologist who plans to save all the big cats on the planet, she's a small animal veterinarian caring for all the small furries, although there is the occasional hermit crab.

When she's not typing at her laptop she's tying on a karate belt for her son or cleaning up the newest pet mess from the menagerie that occupies her house. She's madly in love with her globe trotting husband of ten years and happiest when he returns to their home base in North Carolina.

Forgotten in Darkness by Zoe Forward is her 2nd book in her Scimitar Magi Series. To give you a brief description of the premise of this series: There are a group of Scimitar Magus immortal warriors, who are guardians to protect humans against the evil Daemons., not to mention very sexy hunks. In the first book we met Kira, who was destined for Ashor, the Magus’s leader; and she also was the long awaited healer.

In Forgotten in Darkness we get to see all of the group from the first book, and Kira continues to be awesome. But this story belongs to Shay, as our heroine and Dakar, our hero, who have always been destined for each, in each of their lives. When a Scimitar Magus dies, they are reborn, and eventually will remember their past lives. Most of the group do not remember their past yet, but Dakar remembers everything and everyone, including Shay. Early on Dakar came across as arrogant, and not really likable, but he has been locked in the middle realm for two centuries by the gods, who have now decided to release him to help the group fight off the evil Daemons.

Dakar knows he has a short time left before he and Shay must die again, at each others hands. This was a curse put on both of them by the evil Daemon/Sorcerer Djoser, which forces one to kill the other. Dakar loves Shay, and tries to get her to remember their past. Shay, who lives as a human, has been researching the Scimitar Magus, and this research brings her straight into the arms of Dakar, and the rest of the group, including the evil Djoser.

What follows is an exciting story, non-stop intense action with all of our favorites fighting to save a young boy (a reborn magus), who may have answers to end this curse.

Book two in the Scimitar Magi is slightly different from the first. Another paranormal romance that deepens into the world created by Zoe and leaves you waiting for more.

This time we have Dakar, an ancient Magus released from purgatory after spending the last two centuries there. With all his memories and a curse at his back, he is back ready to face the demons and love. Shay, an archaeology grad student who is not afraid of getting her hands dirty, gets too close to the legends and ancient religions she study when a demon attacks her and she is saved by a mystery man.

After their first encounter we have to wait a lot of chapters for them to be reunited. This for me was a thing that put the book on a slow level. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of action, explosion, fights and adrenaline runs through those chapters but the sexual tension is almost non-existing. Luckily, the waiting is rewarded with lots of pages full with the kind of romance we like.

Dakar and Shay are amazing characters, with so many layers that is easy to picture them as real. They also have a past in common, which is incredible described and created. The author does an outstanding work writing about the ancient Egypt and the gods. The words flow naturally and the language is engaging and easy to read.

One of the best parts is the apparition of the different deities. They really like to have fun messing with everyone’s lives and they are not ashamed of it.

Another good thing is that we still get to read about the characters we felt in love the first time (Ashor and Kira). Mainly is the story of a new magus but he is part of a bigger world and I loved how the author joins their stories.

Overall, the sequel is everything you would expect. The magi continue being sexy, strong, brave and hot. I can’t wait for their next adventure.

*** I received an ARC from the author in exchange of an honest review. ***

Shay McGinnis is on an expedition to hunt down an old ship's diary clue to a ring that will help her with her thesis proving the existence of a group known as the Scimitar Magi. When she arrives at the church where it is held, she encounters something unexpected. A huge male, striking and very dangerous confronts her in a crazy fashion, but then they are interrupted by a creature who came straight out of a fantasy movie. She helps fight it off only to wake up later out of a comatose state with a vague idea of what had happened.

Dakar is pulled out of the purgatory he has been in for 200 years only to come face to face with the woman he has been cursed to kill or be killed by over and over with each reincarnated life. This time he is determined to get her first. Something is wrong though. Usually when they find each other, her past life memories come back to her, but this time she doesn't remember him or the past. In fact she is a modern female who thinks he's crazy. Unfortunately she disappeared and he was taken by the local Columbian police as a murder suspect for the demon he destroyed. After days in his cell, a strange woman who is the latest magi healer comes to him with the intent of bringing him back into the magi fold. Dakar has no intentions of completing that vow when he was tricked by the gods and spent all that time suffering in purgatory. He needs to find that woman and kill her before she can kill him so they can break the curse.

Djoser and his Assassins are still on the prowl determined to destroy the Magi and find a way to remain in the human realm permanently. His men have been taking promising children who may be pre-Magis before they are old enough to get their power and take their vows.
