For starters, who is Midnight Syndicate? If you've never heard of them, they are a duo (Ed Douglas and Gavin Goszka) whose specialty is making scary, atmospheric Halloween/gothic horror music that they call "soundtracks for the imagination" or "soundtracks to imaginary films", where the listener can picture a haunted world of their own creation by using their imagination. In other words, these guys create soundtracks to horror movies that don't exist. Walk into any Halloween costume store, go to any haunted attraction, or go to a haunted amusement park and there's a good chance you'll hear their music playing.

Are you a Midnight Syndicate fan who wants a little change of pace? Something different? If yes, then A Time Forgotten by Destini Beard is just that change of pace. Destini Beard is the 21-year-old daughter of world renown fantasy artist Ed Beard, Jr. Destini's idea for this 14-song LP (as it also was for her debut EP The Dark Masquerade in 2010) was to put her haunting soprano voice and original lyrics to already existing haunting Midnight Syndicate songs and create her own mysterious/haunted hotel-themed album with the goal of transporting the listener into a horror movie of their own creation. She chose thirteen classic Midnight Syndicate songs (including a sort of "club remix") that I feel were perfect choices for her to showcase her singing ability once again. In addition, she threw in one original song, "My Last Goodbye".

Here are the songs:

1. The Last Overture (based on Midnight Syndicate's song "Fallen Grandeur")
2. First Love (based on Midnight Syndicate's song "Soliloquy")
3. Lacrymosa Aeterna (based on Midnight Syndicate's song "Eclipse")
4. Reunited (based on Midnight Syndicate's song "Room 47")
5.

I listened to the samples of this album and decided that I totally must have it. And I wasn't disappointed at all. The music is great, Destini is an awesome singer, and even the lyrics are cool, telling some kind of story about a lost love, trapped souls of ghost children, death, and betrayal. Track 13 is kinda out of place, as someone else said, but it doesn't bother a lot. It's like the credits music of some movie, and track 14 would be some kind of bonus track (doesn't quite fit the story told by tracks 1-12). I absolutely recommend this album for those who like haunting music and singing.

Wow! Destini really did a great job with this follow up album! First off, a full selection of 14 tracks that take you on a journey into the unknown! Second, the vocals were spellbinding, and the music really compliments Destini's singing sending you deeper into a forgotten time. I cannot believe how good everything sounds, and there's many reasons for people to pick this up beyond if they were looking for seasonal music. This album opens this genre to all new dimensions beyond just the usual Midnight Syndicate music.

Destini's vocals really take you on a trip that is not only hypnotising but even relaxing. Midnight Syndicate did a great job creating music that surrounds Destini's voice that really makes it stand out as two of the best in the business. Destini also returns to her previous album with club track too!

Destini & Midnight Syndicate really did a great job with this one, and I'm so impressed and more than happy with this purchase!! Definitely a great follow up to her last album that shows her gifted talent and that she's only getting better with each album!

This is the first Destini Beard music I have heard so I can't compare this to her previous album. I have heard several Midnight Syndicate albums so I'll comment on the music itself as well as the lyrics and singing.

You can tell this is Midnight Syndicate in the choice of instrumentation and tone. There are moments in almost every song where the intensity of the music overpowers Beard's voice but in general they blend well creating a spooky yet ethereal atmosphere. The theme of the songs and how they flow together almost tell a story because they blend so well together but this is likely a blending of both Beard and Midnight Syndicate ideas for the album.

Understanding the lyrics will take some effect not because Beard's skill but merely because of the nature of her voice (soprano) and the nature of the music (gothic with a hint of electronica). Luckily the lyrics for most of the songs are inside the little album booklet so if you want you can follow along; "Farewell Forever" does not have lyrics and is a remix, a rather dance style one at that that made it my least favorite of this 14 set. Good luck singing this as well as she can with the three plus octave range that she displays in many of the songs.

13 of the 14 songs feel like they go together but as I state above the remix for "Farewell Forever" just seems off feeling like a dance number more than romantic goth like the rest of the album. While the album has a story-like theme to it is it not background music for you haunted house or other setting. No this is a album you get because you find this type of music relaxing or engaging and that is what makes it very different from most of Midnight Syndicate's music.
