I don't normally read books that do not involve the supernatural but this was an amazing story line. THE FORGOTTEN CHILD focuses on not just the love one can find in a partner but also their child. As a mother, this was something that captured my attention from the beginning.  Brad has such passion when it comes to his son that you can't help but fall for him. The persistence of both Brad and Emily showed true love of a child, both biological and not. I fell in love with the characters as well as their story. Lorhainne Eckhart proved herself yet again by pulling you in with a heartfelt story and keeping your attention with the passion that fills the pages. This is by far one of the best books I have read.

Lorhainne Eckhart is a new author to me, but she is definitely going on my list of authors' books to lookout for because she turned my world and emotions upside with this compelling, realistic story of heartache and unconditional love between a man and a woman, a man and his son, and a woman and a little boy who she quickly grows to love....

The Forgotten Child is a book full of emotional intensity that carries the reader into Emily's world where she is fed up with her no-good husband and decides the time has come to make a long-needed change. She takes her daughter Katy and hires on as housekeeper, nanny and cook for Brad who is a rancher and a father to an autistic son. It takes Emily some time to make Brad aware that the problems with his son are medical ones and that he needs special care and attention. Just as Emily settles into her position in the house and into a budding romantic role with her boss, his runaway wife returns and upsets the whole apple cart. Poor Emily is ousted and humiliated until Brad sees what's really going on and takes steps to straighten out the mess in his life. Until the end, a lot of heartache and trauma happen that force the reader to keep turning the pages.

I won this from Library Thing. It was a nice quick story, very well written and very realistic when it came to accepting an autistic child. I read this story in two evenings. There is everything from romance, love, anger, hurt, and everything in between in this story. Beware there is some sexual content. I would recommend this story for those who like a quick romance story.

What an amazingly in-depth look at a terrifying disorder weaved into a love story that at times wrenched my heart and at others had me shouting aloud my joy. When hesitant Emily finally decides that she has had enough of her crumbling marriage to Bob, she takes matters into her own hands and finds the strength to move on. With her two-year-old daughter, Katy, Emily moves in to become caregiver to three-year-old Trevor in the sprawling ranch owned by the ultra-sexy and brooding Brad. Brad, a man haunted by a terrible betrayal, finds it difficult to trust, and his bitterness is made even harder to face for Emily, who fast realizes that all is not what it seems with Trevor. But Emily persists, and she is just beginning to make headway with both Trevor and Brad when Crystal, Brad's estranged wife, suddenly appears on the scene again. This is a great story of strength and healing. Ms. Eckhart did a fantastic job in weaving in the emotions all parents feel when they find their child is not like everyone else's. Her characters were human, with their faults and fears, and yet they find the strength and courage to overcome it all and learn to trust and hope. I highly recommend this story.

This was a very interesting book. The denial and then acceptance of dealing with a special needs child was very realistic and hit close to home. In this story Emily is separating from her husband and answers an add to take care of a young child and cook meals. The child is Trevor and he is autistic. Emily struggles to help his father understand what is holding his son back and the unusual behavior associated with autism. She seeks to help him cope and receive help for his son.

In the process there is romance, conflict and resolution. The elements that we love in a romance book.

There is adult content in the book.

Even though I wanted to slap the main character a few times and tell her to grow some effing balls, it was a really great read. BTW, she eventually starts standing up for herself, so be patient. While the overall plot is a little far-fetched (like it should be, because who really wants to read about a normal person's day) the daily grind and the small details are very relatable and real. As a mom I definitely found Emily's dealings with the kids as something that I could relate to.

The book was good but I would have liked it better if the author had spent more time exploring the autistic child's world, their future as a family and how they were going to blend the child's "normal" in with their daily lives. Too much of the book was taken up with getting rid of the current wife. I guess as I grow older I find the graphic sexual content in these type of books distracting from the heart of the story - the child and autism was the draw for me and I was disappointed that was secondary to the love story. The title rang true in that the child was forgotten to a certain extent in exchange for the drama with the wife.The Forgotten Child

My Review:

Thirty-five-year old Emily had been married to Bob for 12 years but the marriage was stale and wasn't going anywhere and Emily didn't love Bob anymore. After telling him she was leaving and moving out with their young daughter, Katy, Emily finds a job as a live-in caregiver to a ranch owner, Brad and his troubled son, Trevor. However plain it is for Emily to see that something is seriously wrong with Trevor, it's not so easy for Brad. After Emily does a lot of research online, she finally confronts Brad with the information that he can no longer ignore. He has to accept that his boy is different.

Things are also beginning to heat up between Emily and Brad when suddenly this arrogant, whirlwind of the Tazmanian devil comes sweeping through the house. It's Brad's wife, Crystal. She has to be the most ignorant, self-centered woman I've ever met and I detested her in the story. Not often a character affects me as much as Crystal did and that means the author did a fantastic job. I just wanted to shake this woman from head-to-toe. She had no interest whatsoever in her own child and undermined all the therapy that had been done with Trevor up to that point. Needless to say, she also drove a pretty thick wedge between Emily and Brad to the point that she moved out and was forced to find another job.

Brad is just sick with worry over losing Emily and Katy but has he lost them forever?? You definitely have to read this book to find out. I was hooked from the first page to the last. Excellent!! Read more ›

2012 was an amazing year in the publishing world for me. And it started with, The Forgotten Child, which landed on the Amazon bestseller list for western romance and romance series. And with the publication of each novel and short story each one made its way to the top 10 for its respective genre. 2013 has seen me posted in the top 100 authors on Amazon for Romantic Suspense and Mystery/Thrillers, Police Procedural.

Where did it all begin? In 2008, I published my first novel, The Captain's Lady, a Contemporary Military Romance through The Wild Rose Press. I have a fierce writing schedule with four books scheduled for release this year and six short stories.

I write three genres, edgy romantic suspense (Walk the Right Road Series), western romance (Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series, and young adult mystery and I warn my readers to expect the unexpected. I'm the mother of three children, one a special needs child. We live on a small Island in the Pacific Northwest where I advocate for the environment, and rights of special needs children.
