4.0 out of 5 stars History of Hollywood
Brief, but informative account of Hollywood history. Not for the serious scholar, but better for an informed layperson with an
interest in some little known history of Hollywood.

This book had some interesting notes in it but was not what I had expected. It combined Hollywood actors with political and period historical events that were made into movies or that took place during the time of the making of movies. This book had some interesting notes in it but was not what I had expected. It combined Hollywood actors with political and period historical events that were made into movies or that took place during the time of the making of movies. There were some interesting things, but overall I was let down as to it's contents. Instead of rare pictures of Hollywood stars or unknowns, there were copies and sketches of political figures and, in some cases, printed materials such as telegrams and uninteresting items. These seemed to be used as fillers as the author did not have anything else to add. I had hoped it was a book about Hollywood, not history in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hollywood Fans will Love this Book!, August 22, 2010
This review is from: Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History (Paperback)
Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History is a beautifully crafted book, filled with photos and stories of Hollywood's Golden Age. You will be enchanted with the stories Pacheco shares as he takes you on a tour of forgotten Hollywood. Very nicely done, this is a perfect gift for the Hollywood fan in your life. In fact, I know that Hollywood buffs love this book, because a radio colleague borrowed my copy after seeing it on my desk, and I haven't seen it since! :-)

I read Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History, and loved every page. where was this book when I was in Film History class in college? Stories and anecdotes throughout on famous character actors, tied together with bits and pieces of US History.

This book is a necessary piece of any look at the valued history behind many of the movies we all love. I find myself constantly reading and rereading various chapters throughout.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, April 27, 2011

I enjoy books about Hollywood history and have read quite a few, but this one was so poorly written that it was almost laughable. Mr. Pacheco must have had someone else write it, submit it to the publisher, and put his name on it. The information was not new, wandered all over the place, and left me with nothing. I wonder what book the other reviewers read???

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written with errors, November 24, 2011

Not a "biography" of some of the character actors in the golden age of Hollywood, the book takes several of these actors and discusses their roles with regards to history. However, it wanders from history to Hollywood and back again with no real purpose. The book had several errors in it. Vivien Leigh's name was spelled as Vivian. This is such an easy thing to verify and that the author did not take the time makes one wonder what other errors are in the book. In the chapter on John Carradine, it is said that The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence was the only film that John Wayne and James Stewart appeared together. I guess the author forgot Wayne's last film The Shootist in which Stewart played his doctor, as well as How the West Was Won although in that one Wayne and Stewart did not share any scenes together. The author mentions All About Eve as the most nominated film but it is tied with 1997's Titanic. I had purchased the book thinking I would get more biographical information on some of my favorite actors such as Thomas Mitchell, Van Heflin, Donald Crisp, and others but was sorely disappointed.
