This movie is one of my favorite ghost stories. The story centers around a novelist who loses his wife and moves away trying to forget his grief. He buys a house and settles in. Unknowingly he has followed his destiny. He discovers the body of a woman in his basement along with her diary and so begins his journey. This story has a wonderful plot and is well done, despite its low budget exterior. If your not looking for a lot of gore and blood, and you just want a wonderful ghost story, with a smart plot, this is your movie!

Having become interested in Terry O'Quinn while watching "Alias" and "Lost", I rented "The Forgotten One" on the advice of a friend, and I'm glad I did. While the movie is flawed, the story is interesting and genuinely scary in places (and quite sensual in others!).

O'Quinn plays Bob Anderson, an author still in shock over the recent tragic death of his wife, who moves to a big vacant house in order to write (and grieve) in privacy. It's made clear from the start that the house is haunted, and eventually Bob and his neighbor Barbara discover the body of a woman buried alive and walled up in the basement. They take the body to the woods and bury it, thinking that will quiet the ghost. However, the ghost is a beautiful woman named Evelyn who wants something from Bob. Or maybe just wants Bob. Whichever, she returns to the house and seduces him (he goes willingly). When she tries to kill him so that they can be together forever, Bob has to decide if Evelyn is malevolent, or if maybe she knows something about him he doesn't know.

As I said, Terry O'Quinn is excellent (who knew he was in such great shape in 1990?), and the love scenes between he and Evelyn are beautiful and sensual. He goes through so many emotions, pain and grief and desire and fear and confusion--just like any normal human being would if confronted with something supernatural and determined. The actress who plays Evelyn is gorgeous, and manages to be seductive and dangerous and sympathetic to boot.

My main quibble with the film is the character of Barbara, played by Kristy McNichol. She's *annoying*. No nicer way to put it. She whines, she treats Bob horribly, is not attractive in the least, does some really dumb things in an effort to save him, and also contributes several voice-overs that add nothing to the film and have all the emotion of someone reading a phone book. Also, sadly, the dialogue is rather wooden, and most of the characters outside of the main four are two-dimensional at best.

The movie would have been better (in my opinion) if it had focused solely on the developing relationship between Bob and Evelyn, and if we had more backstory on Bob himself. But this is definitely worth a rental, or a cheap buy. Watch, admire the pretty faces and bodies, enjoy.

A story about a man who moves into this new house which is haunted by a womans ghost whoms remains are buried beneath the basement wall. At night she comes out and pursues him like a poltragist trying to communicate with himm though he freaks out and runs from the house. then later he discovers that he is her reincarnated lover :|

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SCARY MOVIE" NOT A GOREY, STUPID, NASTY, BLOOD SUCKING MOVIE, BUT A REAL GHOSTLY SCARE~ THIS IS IT..I WAS WATCHING TELEVISION ONE NIGHT, ABOUT TO FALL ASLEEP, THIS CAME ON, I ENDED UP WATCHING IT..IT SCARED ME TO DEATH ALMOST" THEN I RENTED IT" MY NEPHEWS HAD NIGHT MARES FOR WEEKS" THERE 22 NOW, IN COLLEGE" I BOUGHT THIS FOR THEM, THEY WERE LAUGHING" BUT IT SCARED THEM AGAIN! HA HA HA
